Hi Everyone! biggrin.gif Im looking for someone's advice on using the Chauvet SF-4005 as a wavemaker. Anyone have experience? Does it actually make "waves" ? or does it just randomize flow?

Hey welcome to the forum

I would like to know this as well

I have one. If you put it on "short pulse" with two mj1200 it will splash water over the sides of my tank, I have it on a solana 34g. However the mj1200 makes a clicking at start up, but mj are the only ph that I know of that work with the on/off switching of the chauvet. The mj900 isn't as noisy. The new koralia evolutions that are coming out should be better for this since they are shaftless and are suppose to be controllable and won't make that start up noise.

Thanks for the reply majority_rules! Ive got one ordered and Im ready for it to get here. Ive got 2 Koralia 3's on my 75 gallon reef. I really want to try some acros so I want this so I will have the random flow. How many seconds do you have in between your pulses on short pulse?

There are two modes "chase" and "timer". Chase goes from a tenth of a second to a couple of seconds. The timer goes from 1 minute to around 15 minutes. I wish the chase mode had longer pulses.

Have you plugged and unplugged really fast your koralias yet? They make some clicking start up noise. Well at least mine does. It is a bit annoying and I'll probably order the new koralia evo when it comes out so I don't have to listen to the clicking anymore.

Yes. I have noticed the noises too.....but for only $30 I cant complain too much considerring that most wavemakers cost over$400!!! lol On the short pulse....how do your corals do? Is it too fast?

Everything does fine with the pulses being that fast. I keep the flow away from my frogspawn because that seems to be the only coral that isn't excited about the flow. It's cool it stirred up a bunch of detritus I had on the rocks.

There's a thread on here about the Chauvet and peoples experience with it. I think I remember reading on there someone saying that the impeller or the shaft on the koralia can break if you try to use it with a wavemaker. Some people used a little piece of silicon tubing and put it on the needle so the impeller can't move up and down when it starts up. I think it helped with their start up noise too.

Got the Chauvet up and running and it works GREATT!!!!!!!!! makes about a 1.5 inch wave with the return pump turned off but doesnt drop much in amplitude whent the pump goes back on. ......best $$$$ ive spent on my tank!!!! laugh.gif

looking forward on seeing pix lol

Here's a thread about another controller that is cheaper and probably a better option for anyone who plans on using only one pump.
