I have been using a Rebel xt for the past year or so and I would like some pointers to taking better shots. I have a stock lens and am thinking about buying another (suggestions?). I just would like to be pointed in the right direction as far as what you guys suggest about learning the real art of photography and getting the most out of this camera. I want to get really comfortable with this camera and understand its features before I consider upgrading. I have dabbled a bit with 35mm cameras and understand some of the basic concepts of photography as an art but my skill is lacking. I am willing to read, research and listen. I also want to take some pointers in specific areas, post pictures and get feedback from you guys. I have lurked on this forum for long enough, so now it is time to join the party.

I do get out and take lots of pictures, but I do admit that I need to dedicate more time to the manual. We will see what I can do.

A better macro lens would be a good start for aquarium photography, but they run 100's of dollars. I haven't made that move yet.

Are you wondering how to set your fstops and exposure time, etc.? Definitely read the manual, it will help. Also most bigger bookstores should carry an easier to read users manual for your camera.

Buy and read this book. Make it your bible.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the book suggestions because that is more along the lines of what I am looking for. I do understand the basics about shutter speed and app. and lighting, but I want to really understand the features of my camera and get a better grasp on photography as a whole. Thanks again. I am going to order that book today.

I am somewhat interested in buying a macro, but I might opt to get photo-shop first, what do you guys think?

the gimp will do almost everything that photoshop will do, and it's free: http://www.gimp.org/

also, if you're dead set on buying software, but will just be using it for photo processing, look in to lightroom
