Got a cannon Xsi first time slr camera owner (no tripod yet) all shot with 18-55 kit lense.

this one was very hard by hand 2 second shutter is all i could do without it being swooshy.

you must have really steady hands to hold the camera for 2 seconds and not turn out blurry. next time you shoot without a tripod, it helps to rest the camera on a stationary object, helps stabilize the camera abit

this was taken on a boat in rough conditions, handheld with a nikon D200 at 1600 iso
ThatsFishy69
800 iso f5.6 s2.0 for that pic

i was trying to hold it steady on the right setting 20 sec against a chair it came out alright but it could be way better.

are there any low priced (small when folded) tripods out there or do they all suck?

#1 looks great!
#2 I think would be a little better if the building was off-center.. Remember rule of thirds. LOVE the sky.
#3 and #4 aren't level. be sure to keep the camera on a level plane. Keep your horizon horizontal.
#5 and #6 seems as though there is nothing of focal interest. Is it the boat? Zoom in and don't be afraid to let it take up more of the frame.
#7 I'm a big fan of HDR, but something seems off here. Try tweaking in photomatix a little more.. if that's what you're using to process HDRs.

All in all, very crisp night photography. You've definitely got the mechanics down! Just a little fiddling with the composition, and you're good to go. But I've never been known to have an eye for composition, so maybe I'm wrong and someone else can chime in.

BTW, what's next? E92 M3? smile.gif

Thank you for your time and input yeah the leveling was hard it definitely wasn't my tripod because it has a built in level but the island i was shooting from and shooting at both are curved so it gives that effect easy to fix in lightroom though.

people keep saying my pictures look like computer renderings is this normal coming right out of the camera?

As for the car im on 22 so no m3 just yet but im thinking about a 135 and setting it up for the track.. with the new engines being switch from the n54 twin turbo to the new n55 twin scroll tuning is going to be pretty challenging :/

#1 is $$$ if you clone out the building int he extreme lower left

the rest of them are too cluttered for me
ThatsFishy69
really i felt like i was cutting off the building since my lens isnt a wide angle
