Markushka
I've had this nem for about 2 months or more now, but I have found little reliable info on it, and most contradictory.

First a pic from today:

That maroon clown likes hosting in him, he's a bit too big for it so its kinda funny to see.

this is from 2 weeks ago or so:

And when i first got him:

now I run 150 watt MH with 2x 24 watt actinics, and he's at the bottom of my 20 hex so I dont think he's bleached. I also spot feed him at least 3 times a week and he eats well.

This is a pic i found of a very similar looking nem:

Search result led to this:
http://fishfilter.info/carnation-anemone
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/anemidfaq15.htm

another site (http://www.petsolutions.com/) had this listed as a carnation anemone and identified it as an actinia species, they also claimed it was non-photosynthetic. the took down their listing when I checked today.

And of course my LFS who sold him to me as a 'yellow anemone' had no clue as to what the were or how to care for them.

Any opinions? suggestions? comments?

Night bump.

I nearly bought one from www.reefs2go.com and they said clowns generally dont host in them... do u think urs looks yellow, or orange?
Markushka
Base is orange going to yellow, tentacles are cream with purple tips. yeah that's something I read too. My maroon does host it however. The nem looks cool, don't regret the purchase, I'd just like some info and that no-one can give me. smile.gif

Someone just told me they are color dyed and usually end up dying... what did u pay?
Markushka
I payed 20, but I do not believe they are dyed. It does not look that way, most dyed nems dont show white or cream as mine is. I guess only time will tell.
Markushka
Bump, anyone keep these before?
Markushka
it looks like things are taking a turn for the worse the nem was being hosted by my maroon too roughly and was starting to look bad so I pulled it out of the display, tried to target feed it and it wont eat, its shrunk in size too... Am i losing the nem?

What temperature are you keeping it at? I'm not sure about individual species, but I've read that actinias are coldwater anemones.
Markushka
thanks. I moved the bugger into my AC-fuge and he's doing a bit better, he was in the QT and I guess the trates are a bit higher in there.

I'm keeping him in a tank thats usually between 78-80. I'm not even sure its an Actinia sp. I cant find any info on him. I may try moving him into a colder tank but i'd have to set one up.

still isn't taking food I feed but it does seem that he's catching pods, and is less unhappy, he stays out of the light so i'm guessing he's non-photo.

There doesn't seem to be much information on the internet about either Actinia nor "carnation anemone" besides the links you gave.

The consensus seems to be that the "carnation anemone" may be a dyed Stichodactyla anemone...
Markushka
problem is that it doesn't look like a Stichodactyla. how long would it take dye to fade, or would it? I've seen dyed nems before and this one doesn't look dyed.

I have one that is pretty similar I believe it is H. Aurora, this thread on RC is actually talking about the specific batch I got mine from: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...ighlight=aurora

I think what you have is a sebea anemone that has been dyed. It looks just like mine used to when it was bleached, yellow foot and all. Also the purple tips make me incline to believe that what you have there is a bleached sebea anemone.

Keep a high level of water quality, and continue with the feedings - it should begin to get some color.

part of your problem is the maroon clown. They are such little retarded bastard fish! Mine was soooo mean, it nearly killed my RBTA and anything else in the tank that moved like an anemone.

I was glad to get that retarded fish out of my tank. sleep.gif
