Yeah, it was sweet. the guide gave us this really detailed and gross description of all the ways they tortured people. Like, ripping their spine out while they're still alive and stuff. Very interesting, especially when the dead people are right there in front of you!
Back in the pacific northwest, we had a very eventful trip to the beach.

I might have gotten some better night-shots, but I was actively being circled by a coyote (not frightened by my shouting, or even singing out of tune!), and I didn't want any bites.


Local fauna

most exciting, however, was the humming bird that turned up injured in our driveway. He was looking pretty bad, but we brought him inside and fed him sugar water every ten minutes. His condition was much improved by morning, but he still couldn't fly, so we brought him back to Portland and gave him to the Audobon society bird hospital. they said there's nothing structurally wrong with him, and they're not sure why he can't fly, but they're keeping him warm and well fed on special hummingbird formula, so hopefully his condition will continue to improve.
