Hello i have a 7 mont old nano cube 28g HQI
MP-10 Vortech
Stock Protein Skimmer
1/10 Artica Skimmer , with MJ 1200 pump in right rear chamber
Pumps are working on 90 second interval
MP10 is always on on reef crest mode
Lights on at 4pm off ate 10pm
Moonlights on at 10pm off at 9 am
Coralife turbo twist 3x conncected to pump with chiller , turns on at same time as chiller and pump.
Here is my problem since some time ago i have very small particles all over the water. I have done some water changes normally 4 gallons at a time. The particles seem to go down in amount but still i have lots of particles and i want to be able to eliminate them all. Yesterday i cleaned the back chamber and sponges, because i was dumping powder calcium on the back chambers and thought that was the problem. I am also using the blue and white floss for the top part of sponge since 2 days ago , cut the sponge a little and place it under the blue and white floss , in the bottom chamber Chemipure elite. If i dont clean the top blue and white pad oftenly the water goes over the filter rack.
What is the best way to resolve all this , my rocks tend to look like powdery gray and i believe that that is part of the problem? When my mandarin goby or 8 line wrasse pass by the rocks, you see like powder coming of the rocks. They recomended me to powerhead the rocks to remove the grey powder, and syphon it ,but the results where not great . And after that i did the chamber clean up which still left powder floating arround.
Is there like and animal that can clean this up for me, or some type of mechanichal filtration that can help me with this problem. THe fish and corals look good but the water is full of dust. I dont know if the problem is that i have to much movement becasue of the MP 10 . Also i tried filter floos alone and the water goes over the filter rack , i dont know if i am doing it correct. I was also thinking of doing a change in the protein skimmer i had the original set but i turn the knob and now it fills in about 2 -3 hours .
Thanks
For any help or advise

I am running white floss only in the top chamber, then I fill a small media bag with floss and sometimes carbon and stick that along the top back edge between the wall and the basket. This makes sure that all the water coming in goes through the basket or at least through that bag in the back.
With that in place I used a turkey baster to blow all the crud up into the water. I'd do that several times a day and change the floss once a day or so until all the loose stuff was pretty much out of the tank. Now once or twice a week I do the same thing with the baster and change floss to keep things cleaner.
Hope that's helpful.

Use a Magnum Canister Filter to polish the water. Stir everything up really good and follow with a water change. Now.... let the Magnum do it's thing. You will need to run the Power Filter for four to six hours and while doing so.... blow off any sediment off of the rocks with the turkey baster several times and don't forget to stir up the sand as I am sure there is powder on it as well.
Water will sparkle when finshed.

powdered Ca may also be the contributor. on another note, the use of Kalkwasser precipitates phosphates from the water. good luck

go to wal mart and in their sewing/quilting section they have cotton batting for about $4 for filter floww that should last you for a couple of years. I just place a small clump in my first chamber and change out either every 4 to 5 days or when i do a water change.

Do everything suggested above and add a UV sterilizer. Your water will be sparkling.

Wow, dont listen do these people.
One guy assumes you have a Magnum at hand, and another is asking you to purchase a UV sterilizer.

Wow, dont listen do these people.
One guy assumes you have a Magnum at hand, and another is asking you to purchase a UV sterilizer.

These assumptions, unlike your post, are only recommendations.
The original poster asked "Is there like and animal that can clean this up for me, or some type of mechanical filtration that can help me with this problem." Read and comprehend the thread before posting.

I ran into a similar situation with my tank when I first set up the tank.
Just run a small HOB filter and add some filter pad in it. The filter will remove all the particles in the water. Forget about adding animals in the tank, that would be too much problem. (Quarantine the animal, possilbe overstocking the tank as well).

Have you found a solution to your problem?
I was having the same issue, it will continue until you address the undersized media basket. See my build thread for a DIY media basket.

I'm with urbaneks on this one. haven't replaced the undersized basket, but i've noticed that if you fill the tank to capacity, your going to have a water level in the filter column higher than the edges of the filter basket. If you do that, then your doing very little filtration. I couldn't figure out why I was having such issues with crap in the water... corrected water level so filter column water was below lip of the filter basket, cleared up in no time at all. Definitely consider urbaneks basket as I think you could perhaps increase the water level a bit.
