A huge nest. I will have pics later on. I have been trying to raise these guys and have had no luck. This is their first time laying eggs in the clay pot but not their first time laying eggs. Basically i need "s" strain rotifers and smaller foods. To compare their size a 7 day old blenny is about the size of a 1 hour old clownfish.
eggs deposited between 2-4pm
temp 83.9 f
Pics to come

well sad news. The pot was in the middle of the 29 bio cube and i moved it to the left side of the tank and the male ate all the eggs. The male after eating all the eggs went to the empty pot (pot #2) in the middle of the tank and started flashing at the female again. Its very funny how you move the eggs 8 inches over the male doesnt want anything to do with them and eats them all. Oh well. another week and ill have another batch. And this time i will not move the pot

the problem was that my onyx and platinum were getting beat up by the male blenny because he stole the pot from them. I just need to get a breeding tank for the clowns so they dont get beat up any more. Now the clowns wont leave the top back of the tank

I had a devil cherub angel that abused my clowns, and even with it gone, they won't leave the corner

ok so i added more pots to the bio cube and now have a total of 4 pots. The blennies laid again yesterday estimating 1500+ eggs. Water temp was the same at 83.8 degrees and around 2-4pm. here's pics
here is the female almost done laying

the male waiting to fertilize

here are the clowns seeing how its done

i love the first picture of the clowns checking it out. awesome. are these the clowns that we are guessing the egg date? if so the variable of the blennies attacking may disrupt the cycle. no telling when they might lay now.

Jan 11 2010, 09:15 PM
yes thats the pair. Now that i have 4 pots they dont scrap at all. the blennies take pot 2 and the clowns take pot 4

Why is your diet for the blennies?
GT AQUATICS
Jan 15 2010, 07:30 PM
homemade food mix of over 50 ingredients. And they eat the algae off the wall as well as the skin off my finger
neuwave
Jan 15 2010, 11:17 PM
Whoa nice. Did they eat supplied food u made right off the back or did u teach them. Just that I don't have alot algae that grows so wanna make sure if I get one I can add to their diet. How did u tell female from male?
GT AQUATICS
Jan 16 2010, 08:25 AM
they started on formula 2 pellets. they love those. I started them off with this since its a veggie blend.
There is only one way to tell the difference between the 2 and its the anal fin. The female will have equal length spines and the male will have the first 4 or 5 elongated. The anal fin is on the bottom rear of the fish close to the butt hole.
for example
\\\\\\\ is the female
\\\\\\\\\\\ is the male

Cool they have one at my LFS for 15 bucks. Really want to buy one but just doing some research before hand cause I may want to add 2 one of these days. Right now all I have is a harem of flame angels in my tank the alpha male and female do their mating swim each night but no eggs yet.
RayWhisperer
Jan 16 2010, 02:46 PM
They probably spawn almost nightly.
IME angels will spawn shortly after lights out. They just disperse their eggs into the water column, so you'll never see a nest.

so last night a few hatched, but i think i delayed the hatch by shining the light into the pot. The rest should hatch tonight. Im going to get rotifers from eric tonight so i can be ready for the clowns and blennies next batches
GT AQUATICS
Jan 18 2010, 11:49 PM
ok they all hatched tonight at about 10:45. If i had to guess there is about 1500 babies. I had to manually collect them which is not hard at all. I cant get pics since they are too fast and too small.

barely any left right now, same thing as last time. Die off on day 3. Not sure what the problem is. PH is fine no ammonia, plenty of rotifers, temp is stable. Ill just have to offer smaller foods like barnacle larvae. Lets see how these few left do

I think I am going to subscribe to all of your breeding threads.
The larvae look like some sort of alien creature.
I'm tagging along for this batch forward!
