I am amassing the materials for my HOB AC110 fuge and am wondering about lighting. I was wondering if it is best to go to Home Depot and get a cheap bulb fixture or if I could get away with a clip on LED light? Also, if anyone is using a clip on LED, do you have one that plugs into an outlet? What brand is it?

Found one that looks good after search around the intertube for awhile: http://www.aquadirect.com/store/product.ph...=0&page=165. This will do just fine. There are some on most larger aquarium supply store websites and on ebay.

Although that fixture looks great, there does have to be enough actual light to get the Chaeto to grow. I have tried several lights and ended up with a flourescent flood light.

as well as the proper light spectrum (6500k is great for cheato) You want it to grow fast enough that it will need to be trimmed regularly. That completes the final export of nutrients from the system. But if you just want to grow pods, this might not be as important. still you need to keep it alive. jbj makes a clamp on refugium light that would be great for this. I use a cheap 20w cfl 6500k and drives the macro crazy in a hob fuge.
