Got this from Advanced Acrylics via Ebay. Great guy to work with and gave me a great price!

This is just mocked up and needs to be finished still but I kept putting off setting it up so yesterday I finally took the plunge.

A whole setup shot. Far from done but atleast I got it mocked up finally!

This shot is pretty accurate

New piece thought it needed some camera time. Thanks kgehrke!

This one showed up super blue..almost actinic blue

And thought this one looked pretty cool so here it is

Sweet setup. What kind of lighting is that?

I've been having trouble with my mangroves falling over. Now I see the missing component...bikini babe poster!
Bonsai

I have a nearly identical tank. Advance Acrlyic does good work.

Hes around these forums somewhere, ask an LED question and he will come out of the woodwork.

As requested by Bonsai pictures of my drain pipe. All you need is one 1" T, one 1" elbow, one 1" cap and some small pieces of one inch pvc. I also took a little off the elbow at the point where the water enters to make it not so long.

Ya she does double duty holding up those mangroves and looking good at the same time. And it is the Par38 bulbs you can get from nanotuners. These are 20K's with standard optics.

HOW MANY GALLONS smile.gif
burky_tc
Roughly 11.5 gallons. Display area is a little over 11 and I figure the back overflow holds about a 1/2 gallon maybe
pismo_reefer
Nice setup....

its nice and clean, great dimensions as well.
this'll be good.... I can feel it in me bones!

Nice tank, I just got a 16x16x10 frag tank from John and am setting it up now!

Looks like a sweet setup you got, thanks for the drain pipe explanation, I may try that, assuming it's pretty effective in keeping the noise down?

Ya I have no noise issues. Boy was it loud when I took it off last night to take pictures though haha!

Hey burky, I just set this up in my frag tank, however the overflow is 1" and in order to get 1" pipe back there it won't fit the 90elbow on the end like so:

Do you think this will still achieve the desired silencing effect? I'm not sure on the exact anatomy of it... What do you think?
burky_tc
If you remove the section between the red lines will that give you enough room? Just be careful to not take too much if you try otherwise you they wont be able to be connected

Nope, don't have that much room for a 1" 90deg elbow. I may try it and see, I have the base threaded into the bulkhead, so not using slip for this exact reason, in case it doesn't have the same 'silent' effect.

I'm just not sure if having that elbow makes or breaks the whole setup or not, guess I will find out.

Overflow interior of the box is 6 3/4" x 3 5/8"

Try this then Hofer Gurgle Buster

Cool, i'll give that a try too. I'm interested to see what adjustments can be made and what effect it has on the sound. Thanks again.

I know someone in my local club used this on his frag tank and he has had no complaint so it must work.
sbwood007
Nice set up! burky_tc where did you get your mangroves from? If you don't mind me asking.
Thanks,
Stephen

A guy in my local club sold them to me for dirt cheap. I believe reefcleaners sells them though for a pretty good price.

Thanks! Cant wait to get that stuff from you and grow it out for the display. I am playing with the LED's and experimenting with different things to see how they grow. I knows its been proven by many people but I like seeing results in person.

Awesome setup. That makes me want to get a frag setup going. A couple of questions...

1. What are you running in your sump?

2. I'm sold on LEDs but wondering if you could you get by with 1 of those lights? Yours look they're mounted pretty high. Is that for coverage? Any info on your decision process for lights would be great.

Also, I'm wondering if a Herbie style drain would work on this tank with such a shallow overflow.

BUMP for more updates,

Well I decided to go a different direction with this frag tank. Not going to be your typical tank with eggcrate anymore. I just couldn't handle the look of it specially when its out in the open and acts as another display that people will see. I will try and get some updated pictures next week after the holidays are completely over.
badfish816
acrylic racks?? lol

what color temp are your lights? 20k or 12k?

They are 20K's. And no acrylic racks. I will try and get around this week and get some pictures.

How are the par38's holding up? I was thinking about the idea of hanging one of these over my BC14 topless...
burky_tc
Ok so finally an update. Decided to put some sand and rubble on the bottom(just because I like the look of it) and I got everything painted black how I wanted. I also lowered the light structure a little bit.

Another big change is I now have a mag5 feeding this frag tank instead of just one pump going to my 40br, frag tank and reactors. The mag5 feeds the frag tank and so far just a carbon reactor but I will hook up a gfo reactor when I get around to picking some up. And for the flow in the tank I have 3 K-nanos.

Full Shot

Misc SPS, some acans, Misc LPS, and some zoas/palys

Sorry still working on my camera skills specially under these LED's

Still going strong and looking good! Got to love the shimmer they give off

Very Nicely done. Love the look.
Bonsai
burky_tc
Thanks biggyal66 and Bonsai! Those new frags from Bonsai should look good in there while I grow them out wink.gif
burky_tc
Just an update this frag tank will be coming down most likely tomorrow or the day after. Then if things go well I will have some pictures by the end of the weekend wink.gif
burky_tc
Ok here is the new tank. A fellow club member who is are acrylic guru decided he had no need for his frag tank anymore so I had to snatch it up. I was running out of room in the other tank. Fortunately the other tank sold immediately so I paid this one off.

Right now it is just a 2x39w retro in the hood but i have another 2 bulb retro on its way. I also plan on hanging the hood for easier access to the tank. You will also notice an area blocked off on the end holding my mangroves for now. This will be an area where I can throw some rubble and add ricordias to attach to the rubble. Or I have a large BTA and this can be a holding area if and when it splits.

Tank Dimensions 36" long, 12" wide, 6" high and the canopy is exactly the same.

Weetabix7
I'm curious, why did you switch from LEDs to T5 on this?
burky_tc
I switched because this is a whole new setup and came with the lighting
Fishfingers00
Does your system run into a sump or such just wondering where the pipes at end go to smile.gif
