So lat weekend i picked my first clown, a beautiful false percula, and today I went out and was planning on getting another clown for my 14 gallon Biocube. When I got to my LFS I went over to the saltwater section and asked the new guy to get me a clown from the same tank. As he was fishing out the fast little guy he asked me if I hadany other clown fish I said he said "oh.....well you have to add them at the same time or they will kill each othe no matter what" i said whatever and took the guy home. While I was getting the drip acclimation ready I floated his bag in the tank and my other clown was attacking the bag! And the quote from the guy at the store came back to so thats why im here asking if there is anything i can do to reduce aggression between them. Thanks

I would move your rock work around. That way it is a new tank is fair game for each of them to find a place. I've seen clowns have a fight and then decide they like each other or kill one another. That is why it is suggested you buy them in pairs.

But I'd shift the rockwork around... it will get them out of the fighting for territory

If you can catch the other one you can also try putting them in the same bucket while you drip. It may force them to get along. I have no other ideas, sorry.

They're going to spar until the dominant one is decided-
It's often helpful to add clowns of two different sizes for that reason.

Let them work it out, but if one is getting the crap kicked out of it, you can always put it in a breeder basket to separate them while it recoups
fishieCJ
yea the one i just got is smaller so i hope he gives up trying to be dominant quickly
Nanobuds
if the smaller one is beat up by tomorrow, then separate them quickley. it should take no more than a day for them to show their dominance
fishieCJ
i dont know if they have shown dominance yet ive been looking at them atinics only and they like they are quite peaceful. Anywho i have a protein skimmer question (yay) so this will be my last fish for a while. but i later on wanted to get a goby, the sand sifter type. do you that would be overstocking? Could i pull it off with a good skimmer?
fishieCJ
ok i did some reseach and NO ss for a nano so can i still get some type of goby that not the ss type?

3 fish in a 14 gallon, should be fine. Just wait a bit for the tank to catch up so you dont shock it with to much live stock. I'd wait a week or so, also just check your levels to make sure you dont have a mini spike in something.

Would 3 fish in a 14 gallon be overstocking? I was thinking a YWG or some type of small goby, what do you guys keep with your clownfish?

I love clown gobies, they are a hoot. If you want an active bottom fish, consider a jawfish
