Was going to build another LED fixture for my 5gal, but have been thinking of just goin with the Par 38 lamp from nanotuners. Would 1 be enough to light the whole tank? Also, does anyone have picts of how they have it mounted? I know it states not run in a closed fixture, just wondering how to "hide" it, not the prettiest light, sorry Evil.

Doesn't bother me smile.gif While you may think it's not the prettiest, it's also not the ugliest.

As long as the fixture it vented through the top, it's fine. It just can't be completely sealed off. One of the upcoming wider angle units will be enough for a 5.5g. With the standard 40 degree lenses, a 16" tank would be pushing it.

I'm waiting for you to come up with a PAR 38 that runs one of those lovely plasma LIFI tic-tacs wink.gif then you can light up your tank and your neighbor's tank.

I've been thinking about playing with one of those, but the color temp at full tilt is too low. You have to turn it down quite a ways to get a reasonable color temp. I'd need to design a decent reflector for it though. Everyone seems to be trying to cram it into Lumenarc reflectors. Totally wrong focal point.
