Do you want a watermark to prevent theft that obscures the pic? Or do you want a sig (In the corner of the pic)?

Some online places will do it automatically. Our commercial site is automatic but I assumed you wanted free.

imo, real photogs know that anyone who wants their photo can easily remove a watermark, so they don't even bother.

now, how do I make a cool signature?

I use smugmug, and they will automatically add what they call a watermark to every image in a gallery. i need a transparent .png image to do that with. something like a lowercase dh - non-obtrusive. i'm not worried about theft.

I don't think "pro" and "real" are mutually inclusive

it doesn't matter if you sell it or even if its any good, everyone has the right to protect their intellectual property ("then don't post it online" is not an acceptable response)

although corner sigs don't necessarily prevent theft, as they can easily be cropped out, they do demonstrate intent should an issue arise

Yeah, make a preset for copyright in LR2 and it lists an option for including your copyright watermark in the export options.
