Mr. Schertz
Well as the title states, what is the best salt. Also which brand of test kits should I get?

Not trying to be an ass here, but do a search, those questions get asked all the time and the answers will vary widely.

+1 especially since most marine salts are good to use. However, I will say stay away from test strips and Tetra or Red Sea tests. The cheapest reliable test kits are from API (e.g. their saltwater master kit). "Best" test kit is also subjective depending on the desired precision.

Don't get the API Reef kit though it doesn't have ammonia or nitrite tests. I have the strips but only use the to check up on things between normal tests.
