Ok Well I know what is killing them. Seems they are enjoying jumping into the back of my tank (12g JBJ Nano Cube) and getting sucked into the pump......
But what would make them do this? I had purchased a Yellow Faced Jawfish had a nice hole built for him that he took too pretty well. 2 days after i bought him i woke up @ 2 am and heard my tank going crazy. Found him in the hole of the pump blocking it. Was dead of course.
Well that weekend I took some left over egg crate and went and bought a big Fish net.....measured the top of the openings and cut the Egg crate to fit back there and wrapped it in the Fish net....had to modify it a few times to get it from pushing the surface skimmer down (now it looks like crap and going to redo it again later) cut my hand pretty bad in the process but no fish get back there......Well after that was on i noticed that i kept getting bubbles in my tank and saw that somehow this was affecting the water level (dont know how...) so i took it out.
Last night I turned off my lights at the normal time and turned on the moonlights. within 30 minutes my wife said the tank sounded funny and what do you know. my Firefish is back there in the pump....Dead of course.
Have had this particular fish for about 3-4 months. He has been Eating very nicely. Swims out when he thinks no one is watching. very curious fish. loves to look out his dart hole in the rocks. No signs of stress just decided to go jumping i guess.
Anyone have some suggestions on what I can do to keep the fish out of the pump? should i try to build something to just slide down into the area where the pump is instead of covering the whole back area??
