Ive had a marineland stealth heater for 9 months now and when i checked my tank yesterday the water was at 73F. When i grabbed the heater to check it i got a mild electric shock. The heater has no visible cracks or damage.scarry01.gif

I pulled out the heater and replaced it with a cheap glass spare one i was using for WC water. Water is back up to 80F and everything in the tank looks fine.

What heater would you guys suggest i replace it with. I do not want this to happen again and am disappointed with the marineland one. dry.gif

They are. Just got a new 300 watt stealth pro.

Nano... Try contacting marineland. Thier stealth heaters are one of the most reliable heaters I've ever used. Couldn't hurt to see what they say.

Im lucky... 2 days ago I noticed that my temp was at 73F I placed another heater on my display tank thinking that it was too cold for my other heater to support. once it hit 80F I took out the heater on the display tank and then the next day bam! 72-73F again I was like WTF?! checked the back chamber of my NC6 and found that the bottom of my heater was gone. 1 inch of the bottom cracked and fell off. Quickly shoved my hand in there to find the other piece and thank god it was ll in one piece with the wire & etc still in tact. I do not know how this heater could have cracked. Could it be from the vibration of the minijet 400? because I placed the heater on the pump chamber?

Everything in my tank is ok. Thank god no one got shocked or died. from now on I'm only buying stealth heaters!!!

FWIW, I also had a bad experience with a stealth heater (worked fine for a few years) that failed to turn on (no indicator light), which led to a lot of new SPS frag deaths. However, I blame myself for not looking at my thermometer during the evening/mornings to check for any problems. I currently have a Hydor theo, which works well.

I've had so many problems with heaters other than Stealths that a Stealth would still be my choice.

I've got an old visi-therm glass heater, I should probably switch to a stealth from the sounds of it...

If its still working reliably, why switch? Good idea maybe to have a spare on hand if it fails, but otherwise stick with whats working.

Choosing a right heater could actually save your life... LOL

After several years of trying many different heaters, only heater I will ever buy is ebo-jagger heater.. I think these days it comes from Eheim if I am not mistaken.

get a Jager, their the best and most accurate and have a calibration feature. the first heater i bought was a visa-therm DELUXE.
Deluxe must mean it doesn't turn off.....ever. almost freid my new tank(years ago). good thing i was watching closely.

I've got a 50w Jager that won't shut off, at all, at the lowest setting the dial goes to. Guess there's a lemon in every batch of diamonds.

ebo jager is my choise of heaters. just rember to let any heater acclimate to the tank for a half hour or hour before you turn it on, other wise they will always run hot as the think the water is colder than it is.

rena smart heater ftw
