New problem, I can not get a pic because the offensive character is too small, but this is what happens. I feed my SPS once a week with different SPS foods like cyclops. I have a cream colored frag of pocillopara after I feed I noticed a sm black dot about the size of an individual piece of pepper, it stated with one and now I have noticed 4. The pumps are turned off during feeding and the bug does not seem to be doing any harm. I have never in all my reading or experience seen or heard of this bug, It did not come in on any new frags. The frag is surrounded by zoe and I think it hides there and at feeding time it climbs to the tip of the frag and eats. It's not on any other pieces. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, okay we're coming to the rescue smile.gif

A search on Google returned a bunch of results on this topic. For example:

Looks like you can try Interceptor as you would to get rid of Red Bugs. Good luck.

Thank for your response, I thought red bugs too. I looked at alot pictures of red bugs and mine does not look like red bugs at all it's bigger than a red bugs and it is completely black and somewhat shiney. I was hoping it could be something that I could treat, but I have to know what it is first. And sorry once again I can not get a pic because of the placement of the coral and my camera can not seem to get that close.

Again thank you, and yes I did read the form, but picture of the bugs on the monti, still do not look like my bug. Of course I could not get that lucky. They may be some subspecies of red bugs, I am going to watch them for a couple of days, and treat with interceptor if I notice any changes. Most people stated it worked for them, but may affect crabs and shrimp. I like so many other people hate to treat my tank mellow.gif

Yours are different...got it.

Don't blame you for not wanting to kill off all the other crustaceans. However, in my battle with coral-eating carnivorous Amphipods, I've thought about nuking the whole tank with Interceptor and then making sure any new additions get the same treatment.

Can you ID what sort of creature we're talking about other than "bugs" ? Copepods, isopods, etc etc...

Sorry it is not any of the usual suspects. I pretty much know how to identify any of the copepods and amphiphipods. The only thing I can tell you is that when I first noticed it I thought it was a piece of algae stuck, then it was gone, then it was back again on the same tip, now that I look more often I noticed 4 of them smaller than the first. I have alot of sps in my tank so I look for any thing out of the norm everyday at least once. I have absoulutely no idea what it could be. As I said before the frag is surrounded by a large area of zoes green generic type and I think thats where they reside until feeding time.

Seriously some pics would be useful.

+1 I was asking if you had pictures, not if you had seen pictures. Misidentification is common for beginners.

As stated earlier can not get a pic secondary to placement of the frag of coral. And I always do my research prior to posting, sorry but if I have to hear the words weird worm in my tank, what are flat worms? And how to you get rid of aptasia one more time I think I will scream. Yes I am new to this form, but hardly a beginner I have owned some type of aquatic environment every since I was old enough to grab a glass jar and run for the tide pools.
