I am currently researching my newest tank. It will be a 12g (35x8x9). I like the streamline all in one of the AquaticLife HID Lighting kits however the price tag is a bummer. I have never seen the lights in action yet either. Anyone have any suggestions for something similar? Any reviews for the unit itself?

Can you be more specific on what you are looking for? Are you looking for a fixture that has MH with T5/PC supplimentation?

I believe this is what he is referring to,
http://www.aquaticlife.com/hid/index.html. They are same/similar to the Xenon headlamps for cars. Have seen several forums where diyers have tried to rig up their own use headlamps, but have had issues. Seems like a promising light source, but time will tell.

I'm familiar with that light, but I wanted some clarification as to exactly what he was looking at in a fixture.
If it's HID he is looking for, those are the only fixtures available. If he is just looking for a MH fixture with PC/T5 actinics, then there are lots available, but they are all too wide to fit on his skinny little tank.

Actually I like the idea of the three different light types/sources. However I never took into account the fact that my tank would be considered skinny in comparison to the width of lighting fixtures. Do you think I am going to have problems with that? Should I rethink and get a "fatter" tank? Thanks for the help all

Okay how about a 23x11x11 dimension tank. (similar to a standard 10). Would the AquaticLife HID swingarm fixture (8.9x9.7 dimension) provide enough light to the other 14" without a direct overhead fixture? I want to be able to keep some higher light requirement corals.
I will probably scrap the longer 35x8 tank. I wish t5's gave me that shimmer look and leds seem out of my budget at this time. All suggestions are welcome. I am lost at this point.

You can still do MH, like a Sunpod on the 35x8 tank. You will need a tank that is at least 15" wide to mount most of the MH PC/T5 combo fixtures. You can go a little narrower if you hang it, which would be a good idea considering how shallow the tank is.
Why not just make the 35" tank wider? The long and shallow look would be great.
23x11 would just be on the limits of practicality for the AL swingarm fixture.
