Hey guys, so i have been in this hobby for about two years now and im thinking about makig a frag tank. basically since im still in highschool i am working on a low budget and i am looking for the biggest bang for my buck. what i have been thinking was a 20L with like a moded ac 90 or 110 for a fuge type deal and have a 150w viper that i have ontop. as for in the frag tank i was thinking of standing eggcrate up on pvc pipe so its about half way up the tank and then on the left and right sides make another layer for like sps and such... so thats what i have been thinking about and now its time to hear what you guys think.... i want your input on set up that im thinking about doing or making changes to it... i just want to see what you guys think of it. if you have any improvements you would like to add just throw it out there... just remember im working on a low budget so i cant do anything to extreme (LEDS)

All input is greatly appreciated..

Thanks,
-Ryan

DIY a really shalow tank(6"/8") and do DIY LEDs cos u wont need many and then u can change the intenceity of the lighting and it wont caost much and then u dont have expensive bulb changes every 12-6 months

+1 to DIY shallow tank. Do that, barebottom, and then a nice sump (29 gallon at least?) with a DSB and some lr.

I have a 10g currently up and running, that I set up on a small budget. The viper lights are definatley better for cube shaped tanks as they give off more of a spotlight affect. I currently have (2) 70w mh's retrofitted into an old pc fixture. 10g frag tank

leds would be way to expensive. at least $240. your looking at over 5 years of bulbs (he already has the light). the leds will lose intencity and not to mention theres a good chance hw will lose a led or 2 or even a buckpuck or power supply along the way. leds need to come down in price before i feel they will be a viable option.

my question is that you've been planning a frag tank for 2 years? why just a frag tank? do you already have another tank?

ya i have a 125 set up right now and want a frag tank... imd doing the frag tank as a side thing so thats why i dont need it to be to big or expensive.. i agree with the leds though. i dont think ill do that cuz its expensive

also to make the leds sounds hard with all heatsinks and all those things you guys talk about. and i wouldnt buy a fixture with them.. that would be a good 200 bucks
