I have an out break of algae and thought it was bryopsis. So I bought some Mg and started to bring my levels up to 1500. Well they are at 1500 and there is no sign of it stopping sad.gif

This is what it looks like. It is very hard to pull off the rocks.

looks like it to me. Try 1600 for the mg level. I think that is what i bumped mine up to and it went away in a week or two

Ok, I'll keep going.

On a side note. I found my emerald belly up this morning. Could the Mg levels have killed him?

are you sure it is not a molt?

Contact Needreeffunds. He is the resident Byrop pro. Have you blacked out the tank with the elivated mg levels? I know that helps

YES! (not actually nudibranches...but they do a great job)

If it gets that bad I will get a hare smile.gif They are the best imo.

you could get a sea hare to help cut down on the algae growth... how long have you had your light bulbs for.. they could be out of spectrum and causing mass algae growth.. also chill a little bit on the feedings. do it once a day and not to much. and also do frequent wateerchanges.. liek 5-10% a week

I do water changes every week and I feed every other day. My lights are 6 months old. I had one burn out 4 months in sad.gif
RyanR1212
oh... well 6 months is verge of getting new lights... but that cant be the complete problem... umm i mean your always going to have algae in your tank.. now thats a lot so something maybe about your water quality could be doing this.

I'm thinking it was from some dead hermits that I didn't think would have an effect on the tank, so I left them.

omfg thats a breakout and a half! def bryopsis. i had a battle with a small outbreak myself. elevated Mg for a few weeks and it died off. still have a small patch but im not worried because thats behind my rocks and out of site. good luck with it. try to pull or cut out as much as possible first and then elevate Mg gradually to about 1800-2000ppm. should be some threads about it somewhere on this site...

Lol, and that's only two rocks :s I kind of let it get out of hand. I read up on the procedure from the original founder of the Mg trick on RC. I just hope it works. When I look closer some looks like hair and some looks like bryopsis, Which could be why I'm not seeing much die off, idk though
