I bought this stuff at Lowes:

It says it's epoxy putty. Didn't know if it was a safe brand or not.
Ingredients:
Bisphenol a diglycidyl ether resin, Crystalline silica, Glass oxide, Mercaptan amine blend, Iron, Magnesium silicare hydrate

The iron and magnesium would make me veer away. The resin and amine blend is the binary components of the epoxy itself, resin is the part that turns into the "putty" (technically its a phenolic plastic once mixed with the hardener), and the amine blend is the hardener. The silica, glass oxide, iron, and magnesium blends are fillers, I'd bet a nickel you got this in the plumbing section. I think this stuff is intended as a temporary metal-pipe repair compound.

I use Aqua Mend also from Lowes or HD.

Yep, plumbing section. Our lowes sucks... This is the only thing they had. Oh well.

I used that as well on my tank, I can't seem to find Aquamend in any Canadian HD or Lowes.
I did a lot of research on it, and the only thing I got was that someone used it on their tank and it had been fine for 2 years. I took the chance and used it on mine, and touch wood no problems.

I found the Aqua Mend closer to the paint section. They had a section with all the different glues, adhesives and epoxies there.

Yeah, believe me, I looked. That's where I've gotten it before, but this is an inner-city Lowes, so they don't carry a lot of what the burbs' Lowes has.

The instructions say that it's good for all kinds of situations - not just on metal.

If it isn't specifically for underwater/wet use I'd def say no. Probably would not risk it anyways.

Yeah, I'll just have to order some online - that sucks. I'll use this stuff to make artistic statues out of or to plug leaks or something.

Ive seen this question asked about this putty a lot. The OP usually gives up and sources out Aquamend to be safe. There is Iron in it but in small amounts the other stuff is pretty common in most puttys.
To be safe I can't recommend it.
There are other products that I have used before that maybe you can find locally at another type of hardware store.
JB Weld make a product called WaterWeld. Same crap different color as aquamend. If you can avoid the drive-by shooting in the hood look for a small ACE or Mom and pop type shack. They usually carry it.

wat?
it takes me 45 min. to get to NYAS. Though, I could just go to New World, but they are incredibly overpriced. I'd almost rather order online out of principle. And who knows if they even stock it.

lol...the thread isn't about me finding epoxy - i can find some. it was about if that particular stuff would be ok because it's all that Lowes carries here. the answer is no and now i'll just go somewhere else and get something else.
i think i've seen waterweld around though. i'll look for that.
thanks guys.

does it say drinking water safe or potable water safe on it? if it does its ok, just rember that you should let it cure completly out of the tank water if your unsure if its safe or not. once its dry it would be ok, most of the puttys are not safe if you submerse them before they cure completly. for examle the stuff i bought is only safe once its dry, its not safe untill its cured.

Hm... I've never used the last epoxy, but I've used the first epoxy for as long as I've been using epoxy.
I recently picked up something similar from HD, and I wouldn't recommend it. Instead of light gray and black, the HD stuff is grey and blah green, so the mix is the same as the unmixed outside.
I might have to try to latest stuff you've got if it works well for you!

I use the Fix-it stick, from the first post. Guess i should look for another brand, but like nib from Canada said, it's hard to find stuff up here.

Hey guys, so which one of these 3 epoxy is best for use to hold some LR together? I can order these from JLaquatics.com.
1. Aquascape Milliput Epoxy
2. HoldFast Epoxy Stick
3. Tunze Coral Fix Epoxy
Thanks!

+1 on the Loctite brand.
It will turn a light gray color when cured. You can usually find it in Wal-Mart near the paint department.
That is the brand I used to epoxy my LR together for my Bonsai build.
