Ahh my little reef virgin, it's time we had the "talk"

Your tank has cycled, you have had your first fish for a month and haven't killed him and you are ready to start keepin' those uber awesome coral's that you see all the N-R big dog's have. Now, your reef is going to tell you
that you're ready, that it will get it's nitrate levels in check and things will be great. It's just ONE coral ffs and you having NO coral is causing the LR to grow algae ridden and furry. Resist!! You only get your first coral once, it should be the right one.

The problem is, the one you WANT isn't usually the right one (feel free to make a sad face now). I have grown tired of posts by beginning and inexperienced reefers wondering why your Goniopora looks like a bleached out snail turd and HELP YOU FIX IT EMERGENCY ASAP11!!!!!ONE!!!11! (It also is annoying as hell when you post that same thread in every single effing category on the forum. For future reference please note that a hive mind is considerably more intelligent than one or two minds working separately).

So in an effort to keep you from spending 100$ on something you are going to murder, I am offering free frags of beginner level corals. It's only going to be a polyp or two because the point of this is to instill some first hand knowledge about things like light, water quality and how things grow. Stuff like that. I'm not someone who keeps a frag tank full of random corals (well, not yet anyway). When I have a spare frag I have it when I don't, I don't. In a best case scenario some other folks may post a frag or two up here and there to support the cause wink.gif

The catch(es)!!
You HAVE to be a n00b or beginner.
Your tank MUST be cycled.Post your param's when you request a frag(If you lie your pants catch fire mellow.gif )
I don't take specific requests tongue.gif
You have to pay shipping and a "box" fee if I have to get a box. It's unlikly that I would ever charge that,
but if I do charge it, it will be the actual cost of the box, no handling fee's crap.
I offer no guarantee or arrive alive protection.
Post in the thread, don't PM me. It's likely I will forget whatever you PM me I'm stupid that way.
If you are rude or demanding I will be all
If you are rude or demanding of other reefer's posting out of the goodness of their heart you will receive :

Don't ask me names because I don't really care what they are called and thus, tend to know only the names of a few REALLY common ones.

If I had to guess I would say top is tubb's blues and bottom is mint choc. chip.

When a frag is gone, I will delete the photo.

Stay tuned, I have a paly and some GSP aaand maybe something else, I forget
Hawaii_Bio_Cube
My tank isn't ready yet. I'll hit ya up in a month smile.gif
nemmy
my tank just cycled! rolleyes.gif
badfish816
awesome idea. bump for the cause.
voodooaria
This is such a great idea! My tank is just under 5 months old and everything is doing good. I have 2 clownfish, a pom pom crab, sexy shrimp, and your basic CUC. I do a water change every two weeks. My params are as follows:

Salinity -- 1.025
Temp -- 78 Degrees
pH -- 8.2
Alkalinity-- 8-12 dKH range
Ammonia-- 0
Nitrite -- 0
Nitrate -- 0
Phosphate-- Less then 1 PPM
Calcium -- 420 PPM

I would love the blue zoas as I have been looking for some locally to no avail. Please let me know if they are still available and the price to paypal you! happy.gif
laxilla
My tank is a month and a half old so I guess that counts right?

Water params
Amonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 0
Ph- around 8.4

This is a really cool idea. Guess I would get shunned for making a request laugh.gif
I have a BioCube 14 and it is my first delve into saltwater. I needed something small to keep in my dorm room at college. Any idea how much shipping would be to 17325?
ducktales
Started tank about 2 months ago, cycled after the 1 month point or so. 40 Gallon Breeder with TEK t5's,

Water parameters:
Amonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 5
Ph- around 8.2
SG: 1.025
Temp: 80

Have a pair of clowns in there right now.

Would like mint chocolate chip if possible, if not, anything is fine really.

Thanks for this great idea.
Orphicdragon
There will be no shunning happy.gif

Let me post up my other frag's in a bit but tentatively.

voodoo- the tubb's are a go (Frag originated from xiongaquatics) Did you still want a couple asterina's ?
lax - TBD
ducktales - Mint choc chip should be no problem. They are from an LFS here and are WILD caught (which
sucks, aim for aqua cultured every time). These have been dipped and obsessed over and are
actually growth that occurred in my tank not the original zoa's

I will PM you guy's before day is over smile.gif
ryeguy28
AMONIA=0

your going to want to slowly bump that up to 1.025 before corals . (they like it higher, so do inverts)
You can top off with salt water mixed to 1.025 just keep an eye on it make sure you dont go overboard.
Take your time also.

I lack the twig and berries attachment and have no plans to downgrade to one tongue.gif

Eh, you know how it is you end up with random things, that while totally awesome, are totally common and not worth trying to sell a 2 polyp frag of. I also got MANY of the frags I will be putting up from N-R members, and it's a good way for them to illustrate awesomeness of their frags. Good seller's deserve good PR.

If nothing else it's something to do with the GSP trimming's laugh.gif

90accord
Well I consider my self a noob or beginer. I have had my tank for about 8 months now.
There is a clown, two small damsels, firefish, and CUC.
Its a 26gal AGA bowfront
light is a 4 bulb 24in T5 fixture

I have a couple corals now frogspawn, GSP, and a Zoa.

Salinity -- 1.025
Temp -- 78.5
pH -- 8.2
Ammonia-- 0
Nitrite -- 0
Nitrate -- 0
Phosphate-- Less then 1 PPM
Calcium -- 420 PPM

Well I fit your idea of a Noob I would love a frag (zoas would be first choice).
I would also be willing to give away a frag of my GSP for another noob if anyone would like one.

Lawnman
I have done this in the past. Way to step up and help out no twig and berries. wink.gif
billofishman
Have a Solana 34G that's been running for about 4 months now. Have about 5 fish, and some assorted frags that I've picked up locally from the TB reef club.

Salinity -- 1.024
Temp -- 80 Degrees
pH -- 8.4
Alkalinity-- 8-12 dKH range
Ammonia-- 0
Nitrite -- 0
Nitrate -- 0
Phosphate-- Less then 1 PPM
Calcium -- 470 PPM

That is awesome! Yes, I am still looking for asterinas. For some reason I had a bunch through and after cycling and then they just disappeared. Let me know the details, thanks!! tongue.gif

Sounds like a good deal. You are a little more experienced, and I have a small candy cane frag that may be available if you want to try LPS.

If not, we can do a zoa for a GSP
KevinStan
+1 For the great cause. Good person, and things like this are needed here on NR.com

Awesome idea, and I hope to see some noobs learn a little and get their feet wet.....
nano-mex
I too have a Solana 34G that's been running since July. I've 2 fish

Salinity -- 1.025
Temp -- 77 Degrees
pH -- 8.2

Nitrite -- 0
Nitrate -- 0

I would almost perfer the zoas, While I have some frogspawn that is looking great I feel more comftorable with the softies untill I am a little more experienced. I haven't seen much growth on the frog I have yet while the zoas have new heads forming all the time.

I will also let you decide who you would like to receive the GPS frag I have. The GSP frag I have is a frag tile with 20-30 polyps currently on it.

Thank you. I will wait for the PM to know where to send the shipping $$ to. Thanks again.

I JUST added my first LR last night to my tank not even sand yet (will wait till after the cycle) but when my cycle's up I will DEFIANTLY give you a shout, I'm so scared to go out and get a fancy coral and have it die.. I'm still scared I'm killing my rock bc I hate the crappy hydrometer I use and idk if its really reading correct =(

I gotta tell everybody, OrphicDragon and her crew were at my house over the weekend and they are all GREAT folks...I knew that then, but this just solidifies the feeling....I don't think I qualify as a Noob, do I? laugh.gif tongue.gif
wieldymouse
PM's are currently being sent out. Orphic sometimes has trouble keeping track of everything so I am keeping track of everything for her. If you received a PM already from Orphic about your address please send a PM to me with the information. Thanks. smile.gif

No, but she says that in a few months if we haven't killed off everything that you sold us we'll be back in Orlando so you can have larger frags. smile.gif
Orphicdragon
Ok gotta slap the pause button for now. I will be getting with everyone who posted in the next day or two, and hopefully be shipping by Wednesday.

If I can't get it out by Wed. it will ship Monday smile.gif

When more frag's are available, I or whoever has one, will bump and let you know

wieldymouse
Okay, I just wanted to update everyone on the free frags.

Shipping unfortunately was delayed because I am a retard and forgot that we didn't have heat packs, which I just acquired; so everyone who has paid the shipping will have their frags sent on Monday to ensure that they don't sit at the post office over the week-end. I'm really sorry about the delay, but I forget that's it's cold up north right now, as it's still warm here in Florida.

For all the people that have requested a frag, we are still in the process of fragging zoas. We will contact you as soon as possible in the order of the request.

If there is another new reefer that lives in the IL area and would like a frag, please let me know that you're from IL (or a state very close by). Another reefer has offered up a frag of hers, but in the interest of the coral a local pick-up or a very short distanced mail trip would probably be best.

Thanks very much for your patient and understanding.

Water params
Amonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 0

Thanks again! I am in 04021.

Okay, the first round of zoas went out last week. I will be trying contact the next round in the next couple of days. I'm sorry about the wait, but with the holiday and Orphic not feeling well I've been pretty slow. If you haven't received a PM, don't worry you're still on the list; that's why we want you to post in the thread. We still have frags left. When those are gone we will let everyone know when we have more available whether through us or some other helpful reefers. smile.gif

How much is shipping to Cali? I don't have any corals yet and have had my tank running for 3 months.

Awesome thing you're doing! I hope I'll be able to do something like this when I get my tank going smile.gif
luckydud13
I suppose this is probably too late, but heres my parameters:
As of today:
Am: 0
Nitrate: 0
Nitrite: 0
PH: 8.3
Salinity: 1.024

smile.gif
Markushka
Wish I had found this back in november, I guess i'm still a noob since its my first saltwater system, in its current incarnation (20hex) it's been up since July, (10g since may) . Parameters are stable:
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 2-3ppm
I've got a few corals : A Cup coral, Xenia, GSP and some polyps
Livestocks a little heavy: Maroon clown, foxface, 5 damsels, but the foxface and 2 damsels are 'on loan'.

oh and i forgot about all that GHA.
nano-mex
No worries I posted back on Nov 16 2009 and haven't gotten anything. may be they ran out of frags and are growing more.
porksoda
My tank is almost done cycling so when its ready I'll post up.
