I have a tank with crushed coral and I am wondering if I can have a crushed coral as a substrate or do I need a finer grain sand?

Also, how deep should the substrate be?

Thanks

mixed with varying grain size of sand. but should have a lil crushed coral for stability of burrows. At least 3 inches of sand btw. at least.

How much is a little? I have a 1 inch layer if it right now. I would assume this is fine considering I would top it with 3 inches of sand, but I just want to make sure. smile.gif

You should be alright. But I would get small pieces of LR from my lfs and break them up with a hammer. I would put handfuls in and in a matter of minutes, the bsjf would use every piece! wink.gif

depends on how big the pieces are.

Here is the size I have:

say 25% the other 75% should be sand.

You could make him a little hotel with some PVC buried in the sand where he likes to burrow

Those actually look a kinda big but like rkelley_10 said you could just make him an artificial burrow.

Those pieces are fine. You will be amazed at what blue spots will move around. Mine would move whole coral frags! wink.gif

They are pretty bulldozer-ish (is that a word?). Reminds me of Fraggle Rock

I was reading that post yesterday lol and was thinking about it smile.gif But just in case it decides not to use it I wanted to make sure the crushed coral wasn't too big.
