I have tried my luck a few times at cutting glass in the attempt to put together my own pico. It always seems like I measure and measure and measure... only to cut the pieces, and realize the sides are higher, or something somewhere is off a little..

I know and understand that practice makes perfect.. but I am great with measuring and building stuff as I have done MANY times before... just seems like this glass cutting isn't going as smooth as I assumed it would.

I am looking for some input from others on what kind of equipment you have used to cut to get perfect straight edges and stuff...

Any help would be great.... I just want to get a perfect one together.....

Straight edge, square, ruler/measuring tape. Don't need anything more than that. Try using foam core board from the craft/office supply store as a practice run, then use it as a guide. If you keep saying that you are measuring things over and over to get it right, you are doing something wrong if it's not square or the same size as other parts.

I have occasionally used cardboard as a template... The only issue is that it can be a little too pliable. I like evil's foamboard idea.

measurments always look right but the cut pieces aren't perfect enough... though I am building pico size (2 gallon and less.... some are way less...)

Just cant figure it out... I think I have mastered the scoring and I know I can measure... but it always ends up off by a bit... just enough for me to notice and make me mad....

I wanted to know if there is something out there (practical) that can make this job a little easier..

I have been using the square, ruler, and other basic stuff... but it's just not working out perfectly like I would like for it to.

I was hoping to find an easier way or some sort of contraption that could ease the process of making it perfect....

Templating. Use the foamboard and you have a template material that is about the same thickness of the glass you will be using.

I suppose if you really wanted to, you could build yourself some jig out of wood, but it won't work if you are having a problem measuring straight lines of accurate and precise length.

I was looking for something similar to a jig but that had measurments already on it.... slide it to where I want to cut, slide it to cut and be done...

Do they make anything like that? For a reasonable price anyways?

Tile cutting rig?
KevinStan
Tried that... and for anyone wondering... it doesn't work
