I'm sure you know this, but they are a low light coral and will morph a bunch when you change light conditions. Some of mine are prettier under my PC's than when I bought them under metal halides.

I've kept great looking ones under MH before... but it was 150W 20K bulb with a low PAR rating, sort of high above the tank.... So I guess what I'm trying to say is that they like low light. I have a few in my 75 right now and they aren't too fond of my insane-o lighting.

I do understand they like lower light already.I dont have a issue with them under alot of t5 but trying to see what others think on the subject.

T5 gives you greater light spectrum diversity so you will be able to have a spectrum range that goes from red to deep blue which means more color morph possible. It also distributes PAR evenly across the span of the light unlike MH which is point source and PAR falls off the further you get from the center of the light. So you may have to lower them down further in the tank than if you had them under MH.

I think part of the reason that they may look different under different light is the spectrum of the light itself... I think most T5 setups have more varied wavelengths of light than any single MH bulb, and so produce a more varied and 'richer' array of colors reflected from objects. My MH is pretty white, but still lacking in yellows and reds (reds look almost burgundy under this light) and relatively heavy in blue.
As far as which is better, I would say for a tank filled with Acans, T5HO is better. For a mixed reef with some shady areas to place Acans, MH is the way to go.

I got my first acan frag a few days ago. I have the old school compact fluoroescent bulbs 72W and 15,000k. I am going to be upgrading my hood to a better lighting system in a couple of months. Is the acan going to be fine with my lighting until then?
