I am starting a frag tank: 36" x 24" by 8-10" high (or) 48" x 24" by 8-10 inches high

Will be growing: Green star polyps, zoanthids, LPS, mushrooms, small amount of SPS. With focus on RIcords, GSP, Zoas

What lighting should I be looking into?

Can I get away with a T-5 setup? As I do not want to buy a chiller.

Yes. You can get by with T5's, definitely. And you will probably need a chiller if you do halides. You could probably do a 4 bulb T5 fixture, Nova Extreme Pro, ATI, and TEK make great T5 fixtures. But I'm not the lighting guru around here, there are much more knowledgeable people on here.

What about the TEK Retro T5 kit? I can get 2 2X54 watt ones for $150. Are they any good?

TEK does make good fixtures. I would think 2x54 would be enough, but I probably wouldn't be satisfied.

Here's some cheap ones. http://www.coralreefecosystems.com/ltg_sys...ly-teklight.asp

It does not come with fans, but comes with bulbs of your choice. Also...
