Hey everyone.

I'll be setting up my Solana here shortly and I'm torn between the Euro-Reef and the Sapphire Aquatics as to which skimmer to get to replace the stock one.

I'm very close to ordering the Euro-Reef one made for Solana's but my MAIN CONCERN is that the Euro protrudes about 3" above the back chambers. The euro looks like a champ but I can't get over that still...trying to keep this thing as clean looking as possible.

So please answer these questions if you own a Sapphire skimmer:

1. What do you like about it?

2. What don't you like about it?

3. Does it pull out some sick sludge after breaking in?

4. Would you buy it again?

Oh, and if anyone owns a Euro-Reef I'D LOVE TO HEAR from you too and see pictures of what it looks like back there!

Thanks!

I just got word that the new impeller for my Euro Reef will be coming. They are making it out of a much harder material (some sort of diamond mesh) now that shouldn't break down with usage. That was my biggest gripe. When it was only 1/2 way worn down, it produced more skimmate than any skimmer on the market. I have a Tunze 9002 set up in tank right now until I get the new impeller. It only pulls 1/2 the skimmate my partially worn Euro Reef did so I can't wait to see what a fully new impeller does. The bubbles it produces are really nice and small so it really gets a good froth going. Pics are kind of hard as my tank is up against a wall. It is a tight fit in chamber 1 but it does fit and has room for my heater, temp and PH probes for my RK lite. It is very simple to adjust, but since I have a auto top off, the water level stays very steady and it never needs adjusting. The only down side (since they've fixed the impeller wear issue) is that it does stick up out of the tank, but my Sunpod really blocks it anyway. On the flip side to that, it is a snap to empty the collection cup!

So please answer these questions if you own a Sapphire skimmer:

1. What do you like about it? I LOVE MINE THAT IT IS SO QUITE AND FITTED CLEAN NO STICKING OUT OF THE TANK.

2. What don't you like about it? THAT I SHOULD OF WAITED TO GET THE NEWER ONE THEN THE FIRST GEN.

3. Does it pull out some sick sludge after breaking in? NO, NOT THAT I WOULD OF KNOW

4. Would you buy it again? DEFINITELY!

Thanks! YOU'RE WELCOME
