I have an Remora aqua C skimmer and a HOB filter. The skimmer puts out a lot of micro bubbles in the water (they get past the bubble trap in the skimmer) and is a real bummer from an aesthetic point of view. I have a 29 gallon AGA. I put ROWA phosphate remover and activated carbon in the filter. Do you think I could get by with out this skimmer and filter? I would still keep the filter for chemical filtration but ditch all of the pads in it. Should I get a different skimmer?

My Remora eventually stopped generating micro-bubbles; I'd keep it.

Sure, skimmers are beneficial but are not 'necessary'. Your LR is your bio-filter; chemical and mechanical filters are optional (plus other bio-filters aren't recommended).

If you have the money and don't like your current skimmer then go for it. I'm not sure why you are having problems with your AquaC; maybe you could ask their tech support.
