Ok so lately I really have been wanting an aneome for my clowns to host and somee more light demanding coral. So I was thinking of doing metal halide, I was looking around and it looks like fishneedit has the cheapest fixtures around. So i wanted to know if this fixture is good. And should I get the 70 watt or the 150 watt model.

Probaly not what you want to hear, but if you are considering upgrading your lighting to accomodate an anemone, you should probaly consider upgrading the size of your tank as well. In those tight quarters, its easy for the nem to sting al your other corals.

As for your original question, I have heard good things about the fish need it lights. I believe they do need a bit of modification to the socket but for the price, its a good deal.

I have the Fish Need It 150 W on my Oceanic 30 and really like it - doing fine (I also have a set of their T5s on the tank as well). Growing everything I want right now, and been running about three months. Bought the 20K bulb and it looks more like a 14K. No Nems in my tank, but my Crocea is doing fine so far as are my SPS. My guess is it would work fine.

alright thanks guys. but should I buy the 150 watt or the 70 watt?

I have heard that 150 MH has a ot more bulbs to choose from, is this true? Also i think 150 watts might be overkill, do you think 150 watts is to much for the biocube

Gotta agree with mattskims from above, an anemone in a 14 gallon tank is not going to end well. Why not try to get your clowns to host something else? Frogspawn/hammer/GSP would all be suitable and you could keep them with your stock lighting. Not to mention you wouldn't have to worry about them stinging your other inhabitants (at least not to the degree you would with an anemone). Keep in mind as well, there is no guarantee that if you put an anemone in there the clowns will host it.

Just my .02 but I think it'd be worth it to try and get them to host something else first before you spend the money on a new light and an anemone.

Here's a pic of my clown hosting GSP:

really they can host gsp? god cuz ive been reading about anemones and some people say to wait 1 -2 YEARS before putting a anemone in your tank. I think ill still get the MH lighting because the biocube stock hood is loud. Also how long will I have to wait to put a gsp in the tank?

Clowns can and will host just about anything. I've heard of them hosting filters, powerheads, mag floats, plain old rocks, etc. You won't have to wait very long at all to put GSP in your tank as it is pretty much indestructible. In fact it would be a good first coral to add to your tank.

There's no guarantee your clown(s) will host it but the chances probably aren't that much worse than the chances of them hosting an anemone (unless they're Maroons, in which case your tank is way too small for them anyways). Regardless, the chances of an anemone surviving long term in a 14 gallon are very slim if you ask me so it's worth it to try corals first. If GSP doesn't work, frogspawn would be worth a try as it resembles an anemone much more than GSP (although it's a bit more difficult to keep). And if it doesn't work out and they never host it, your consolation prize is having some cool colorful corals in your tank. I just hate to see people spend big money on anemones when the chances of survival are so small. Good luck.

Hah, my clown switches around between some lunar palys, some orange mushrooms, and a bit of hammer coral in my 10g tank. The palys hate it.

Anyone else have opinions on the FishNeedIt halide equipment? I'm thinking of putting the 70w over my 10 as the 150 is killing me having to top off so much.

Fishneed it lights are good. Running one on my contest tank. Try the 20k bulb cuz my 14k is pretty white. I'd prefer something a little bluer. (I'm using the 70w hqi btw.)

I run a 70w over my 14g and it's great. I certainly wouldn't go brighter though. I had to add an extra fan to the feeding lid to keep temps down, but now it's a constant 79* in there. I don't have the fishneedit kit, I have an all DIY one.

I have a bc14 with a Sunpod 20" 150w and I love it. I run an open top and the temp stays between 78-80.

I was looking at a Sunpod 20" or a Nova Extreme Pro 20" for my BC14. Was wondering how your Sunpod
sits on the BC14, is it wobbly or fairly secure......also from the pictures it looks great but I am worried
either one will look too big since BC is only 15".

Thanks

It's sits very secure on top. The legs are nice and snug on the tank and there is no wobbling whatsoever. In regards to the loook of the sunpod on the BC, I think it looks awesome. There is a little bit of an over hang which you can see from my pictures, but that doesn't bother me.

If they are standard old tank bred occelaris clowns they might never host anything. Don't buy a nem for that to happen because you will buy one and stress it, kill it and the clown will never even have tried to host it.
