i have a 10w 50/50 Coralife bulb on it right now but i also have a 20w 50/50 Coralife bulb that protrudes too much out of the housing. Is there a better way to light this tank aside from the 18w coralife or the bigger t5 housings?

I was looking at the Tom's Deco clip on light but it's only sold with the tank......anyone know where to get a hold of that light aside from buying the tank?

If you really want a nice light for that tank, check out the Evilc66 Par38 lights at Nanotuners.com.

They aren't cheap but will last for many years. I'd get the 20K light, personally.

You can ask around on the classifieds to see if anyone has a Deco-clip light that they don't need. There's also the 2x9w coralife fixture.

I'll try asking around for the deco light. the coralife fixture doesn't come with mounting legs so i think i'll pass on that

At 10" you could also go with the 12" aqualight. The 9w lights don't really put out a whole lot of light and you've probably be upgrading them soon enough.

The best idea though would be an LED setup to get intensity without a lot of heat in a small size.

I'd love an LED setup but don't have the funds for those fixtures. I'd put the LEDs on my 20 gallon tank first LOL.

the aqualight you're referring to is the Coralife fixture?

+1 I think the 20K PAR38 would look awesome over that tank. I have 2 and I love 'em, the ones shipping now are 21 watts (brighter than 15 watt version) and would probably give your tank complete coverage with excellent PAR at 12"-18" above the tank. Save yourself the hassle of messing with PCs and uprade now...do eeet! BTW mine are in architect lamps I found at Target for $25 and they work great.

anyone have experience with this light?

I would do an Evil PAR38 like the others are recommending. Your tank size is probably close to mine, this is how I did mine.

Not enough power.

Those PAR38's make me hot.

the PAR38 is a bit costly and i'd need to find a lamp for it but if i do save up for it, is my 20watt good for the time being compared to the other cheapy light setups?

you have to pay to play.

why buy a fixture that you have to buy bulbs for every 10-12 months? bulbs are expensive. over a period of 5 years you will save money with the par38 bulb. what would you rather energize over that period of time 15 watts or 20+watts?

you save with the led & you get to keep what ever you want.

I'm only keeping zoas and ricordea in this tank lol...I really want the PAR38 so I think I'll just stick with what i have for now until i get enough money for the PAR38 and i didn't realize the price drop on the site so that gave me some relief.
