Yup... it's built out of 3/8" "scraps"... he builds big tanks for the most part.... Passes the savings on to people that want smaller tanks... I'll post more contact info for him later... he will ship

Sunday fun.... setting up 10g and 20l frag tank... gonna be a busy day.... if I want to stay married, the laundry room has to be tidied up a bit....

15x15x9, with 12x15 display.... just looked at your thread, and noticed the offset returns... thought about that, curious to see if you are happy with it. My tank is very overbuilt no complaints, I was intending to have a toothed center.... we'll see how the full length overflow works.
After my "Jacob is the best shot", tank gets wet.
FWIW 2xmj600 for the returns.

Nice. I'm going to try to skimp a little and am getting the 150gph Azoo pumps from DrsFandS. They are about halfprice of other powerheads. Hopefully they hold up.

Is the stand going to be the same as in you avatar?

Short story... diatoms (surprise) Not happy with the LR i purchased for the tank... think furniture, and how nice it looked in the big showroom, but when delivered............
Not overly concerned, esp considering the talent in this contest.. I'm just along for the ride.... hoping to have pics worth sharing by weekend.

4 of these tiny mushrooms, rock is from the Gulf of Mexico. Anyone want to save me some research time?

Woo! awesome rocks Joe! I can't really see the shrooms in the pic...maybe when they expand more. What color are they? blue?

They are expanded... Generic rust red with light blue speckles.... not much bigger than a pencil eraser.

Hitchiker Gorilla crab caught in my 5.5 contest tank... Sentenced to life without parole....

That crab I know won't harm anything- I had a couple of those in my LR from SeaLife. The other crab, I'm not sure about, but don't be quick to judge. There are tens of thousands of varieties of crabs, and many of them look exactly alike.


N. wennerae mantis?

N. wennerae is my guess also. The LR it came on is from the Florida area. Curious to see if it changes color when it molts. The crab I'm ID'ing as a gorilla I suspect of nibbling on some of my corals.
The as yet unidentified "white" crab in the pic molted tonight. Seems to be harmless thus far.

I have an N. wennerae also, and I've never had a problem with it bothering anything in my tank- fish, crabs, or snails. I have these small self-reproducing snails that I keep in the tank and it seems to just eat those as well as bits of shrimp I offer it. It's good to offer it something with a hard shell to eat once in awhile so it can use its raptoral appendages.

I feed it mysis and pellet food. Given the chance it will tear through dwarf ceriths and small hermits. The gorilla crab will probably be safe for a good while.
I tend to hear it exercising it's clubs in the live rock tunnels. It also seems to be adept at moving substrate around

From those pics, the coloration and body shape appears to be of the N. wennerae/bredini complex. Tank looks great I've found that table shrimp soaked in a vitamin additive makes for a good food that you can place on the end of a skewer for him to grab.

they sound like the mushy rock i have, from whjat i was told they were called supermans at the LFS. But i am not curtian if they are s-mans or not. So i call them false s-mans lol, on that rock i have, there's lil over 30 on there

Relatively nice looking tank that could be had by begging local club members for stuff they don't want....
SW equivalent of a goldfish bowl
Circulation, chemipure elite, topping off every couple of days, 2x week target feeding the mantis, emerald and gorilla crabs. Quarterly waterchanges.... There's a reason people don't like xenia et al.

Next stage in this tank's life is natural xenia control.... stay tuned..... I know torches keep it at bay
