Ok so im new with saltwater tanks. I got a Biocube 29 3 months ago and has been running pretty well. My only upgrades to the tank are a flow mod, Rio 800 return pump, Koralia Nano powerhead, and a Oceanic Protein Skimmer. Ive been having problems getting coraline algae to grow in the tank. I had an issue where the exsisting algae on the rock was turning white and was told to use Kent Liquid Calcium to get it to come back. It did work and where it is on the rocks looks great...but theres not THAT much. Anyone have any good pointers?

give it time, one day it will just start showing up. Also make sure you calcium is up in the 400-450 range.

What are your water parameters? Don't dose what you're not testing for. You can't only dose calcium; alkalinity and magnesium are other important supplements. However, coralline algae really doesn't use a lot of calcium/alkalinity compared to what you're adding through water changes.

its best to use a 2 part Ca/Alk system with a Mg supplement too. wink.gif

The coralline that was on my rocks came back. Idk bout the stuff on the glass. I read somewhere that scrapping the growth thats on the rock off and putting the scrappings back into the tank.

nope. it will re-grow over dead coralline tho.

Coralline spores usually will survive, unless the the rock has been out of water for a long time.
