oooooh So u want active fish. I didn't know that.

Try these fish:Royal Gramma, Firefish, Helfrichi Firefish, Orange Lined Cardinalfish, pajama Cardinalfish

All of them are really cool and interesting and peaceful fish!

i have had cardinals and i might go with them but i like a colorful fish and i have had firefish and they are just to delicate and expensive in the helfrichi's case. the royal gramma is a good idea but i heard they can be shy. I also thought the green banded gobies are active?

Royal Gramma-Very cool and not shy at all! Always out.
Greenbanded Goby-My lil one was always out and scooting around.
Orange Lined Cardinal-I almost got one. They are active and very colorful in my opinion

It's just common for them to bully other fish.

Very common. Some people will say go with a sixline because they have had good luck, and there ARE peaceful sixlines. I prefer to go with fish that are 90% of the time peaceful. It sucks to get a 'possibly mean' fish and watch it beat up your other fish.

ah, so you're the one who bought that pair. must be amazing to see two of those beauties interact. happy.gif

yeah, my avatar's in my tank. cool.gif

If I could do a 12g right now I'd set it up with an arrowhead or possum wrasse and a royal gramma. I've not noticed grammas being very aggressive to anything but their own kind in small tanks, but YMMV.

Cool! How big is your tank?

Unfortunately I don't see a lot of interaction. 200 gallons and they hide in the rockwork a lot, but it's only been a month or so. Perhaps in a few months they'll get a bit braver.
animalmaster6
Royal Gramma aren't that aggressive!!!!! They will kill then torture then burn their own kind. They aren't bad against other species though. I really would bump the Mcoskers Wrasse. They're AWESOME yet they are too big for a 12 G

i've got a 20, w/20#'s lr, 30#'s sand, stocked w/the candy basslet, magnificent shrimp goby and yellow assessor. i think it's a good size for the occupants - small enough so i get to see them often. the candy never hid - was swimming in the rockwork from day 1, and about two weeks later, would spend short periods of time in open water looking for pods. he's quite an inquisitive fellow, always greets me at the tank when i approach, and follows me around. he darts around in and out of the rock similar to my 6 line in my other tank.

funny, i was thinking of adding a possum wrasse, but i don't want to disturb the mojo that exists right now, (probably occupies the same niche as the candy) and i'm close to being overstocked.

apologies to weeber for the off topic reply, but i'm sure you don't mind in light of your avatar. tongue.gif

I really like the Mcoskers! They are just too small for a 12 G though! I really like Royal Gramma's! Something you have to do-GET A PISTOL SHRIMP FOR UR YASHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Hi Fin Red Banded Goby is way out of his burrow right smack in the middle of my tank just hangin with my mated pair of pistols. They are sooooo awesome right now! They are completely out!!!!!!!!!!!

O yeah remember that kaponage!

And the question u asked a long time ago about the Fang Blenny. Well they are not aggressive at all. They can be a bit scrappy with fish that look a like though.

In all honesty i have one in my 39 gallon and i feel that even thats a bit too small. They enjoy swimming ALOT. I couldnt imagine putting one in 12 gallon it would just be like locking a chimp in a closet.

yah i have been lookin into gettin a pistol but right now my yasha is in the perfect place right in the middle of the tank and his little cove that he comes out into has a noce orange plate coral that he looks even more awesome over but when i upgrade to a much bigger tank in a few years i will get him/her a shrimp and maybe even a mate!! i would get a pistol if there was a way to control where he borrows.

no sorry sad.gif I just registered Sunday, lol. I might but my tank only has a few corals and they all are onb the sand cause i can't find something to glue the corals on the liverock. When Christams comes, and i get my 90 G I definetly wiil! I also see no point since i'm transfering everything in a few months to m/y 90.

well a lot of people will probaly steam about this but i got a 2 inch long filimented or carpenters flasher wrasse and now that i see him in the tank i think he will be fine but if he shows any signs of stress due to to small of a tank i will immeadiatly move him into my 55 gallon tank where he will have plenty of room. (the main reason i got him is because my lfs said that he should be fine and i trust them because they have been in the trade for at least 10 years and are pretty close friends of mine. thats not to say that i do not trust you people here at nano reef.) i will post some pics in a bit. smile.gif
Rehype
How would he show signs of stress? Swimming into the tank glass?Succumbing to ich? If you have that large of a tank wouldnt it make sense to put him in that tank to begin with?I mean since they grow up to 4" inches. jus sayin..

Thtas not too bad of a fish. I'm actually getting a Filamented Flasher in my 90 G. I decided to get that the 1st time i new i'm gettin a 90 G.

They only get up t 3.5 Inches so he should be fine.

they do not get that big and signs of stress would be not eating, running into the glass (although sometimes they think there reflections are another fish so they fight with them), and light or pale coloration. i didnt put him in the big tank because it already has a heavy bioload but mainly because we have to get the agressive
hippo tang out first.

You can probably get another small goby or 2

I HATE the ppl who put tangs in nanos especially under 15 gallons. A Blue Flasher in an 8 G would obviously be terrible.

So why would one be ok in a 12 gallon especially considering his tank is fully stocked which probably only equals to roughly 7 gallon gallons of water?

The Filamented Flasher Wrasse is not a tang and I don't and Weeber doesn't have a tang in our tanks. I don't mind if u have a tang in a nano for a few weeks to a few m onthas just not when it gets past 3.5 inches.

im not gonna close the polls but i will take the wrasse off, the gramm, and the blennies. also they had a royal gramma at the lfs but they said it would run a greater risk of bullying my yasha so that one is a no. and i thought it should be ok in a 12 gallon rehype.

I understand that but you clearly are justifying putting a fish that needs much more swimming room in a tiny tank. And then when the fish outgrows the tank(which it obviously will) it will have to be captured and relocated to a larger tank.

They dont have to be in the a 90 gallon but confining them to a 12 gallon is ridiculous. They may survive in 12 gallon but they wont thrive. The same way you can survive living in your bathroom as long as you have food and water...

yes but these dont get six inches like u thought and even when he is fully grown he should have sufficient room to live and he is by no means going to stay in here for the rest of his life because in a couple years i will upgrade to a 180 gallon and that will be his new home where he will have pleanty of room.

That was a typo i meant 4". Its no point in arguing about it since you already bought the fish. And just because your "lfs said it was ok" doesnt mean its ok rolleyes.gif Im sure they cant point you to a flasher wrasse that theyve successfully kept in a nano for years....You have to remember that to most lfs its just a business and they could care less about the fish once its sold.

That is very true! I know many lfs that are terrible and only want $. He said he trusted his lfs for years though.
lakshwadeep
+1 to rehype. Just because a fish fits inside a small tank doesn't mean it's suitable for such a tank. Flasher/fairy wrasses are hyperactive, and a "12" gallon tank with rocks and sand sound cramped even for a juvenile. Check out helfrichs chick's large tank that shows a flasher wrasse zipping through the entire length (at least a couple feet) in only a few seconds.

well the pics are uploading as we speak so i will have them up soon and the wrasse seems to be doing ok swimming around except when im in sight where he stays in one corner of the tank because he is still a little shy but on the bright side he eats like a pig and in one pic shortly after feeding his belly is huge. one thing i did notice is that i think he shares the same kind of cove the yasha goby comes out in and he has shown some intrest in him to where he will come up and nugge the goby and flash him but the goby dose not seem very afraid and i think he may be coming out more to investigate. i will keep a close eye on the wrasse because if he shows any real aggresion towards the yasha into the big tank he goes.
