I’ve had a nice little toadstool frag for a couple of weeks. It started off great, but has progressively been getting smaller and smaller and now spends most of its time retracted or out just a bit. It still has OK color, but it seems to steadily be getting worse.
Its in an 8 week old tank and so far everything else is doing OK, including things like Kenya Tree’s, Frogspawn, Xenia etc. Water tests are great. I’ve tried fooling around with water flow to no avail. At first I thought it was just annoyed from being trampled by a hermit crap a couple times a day, but I’ve moved it to a place where the hermits leave it alone and its just getting worse.
Thanks for any advice.

I'd give it some moderate flow, toadstools normally do this for a week or two every so often to shed a layer of slime. If your salinity is too high it'll cause that as well though, how are you measuring it?

I'm using a Marine Enterprises hydrometer. I've been using hydrometers for years on fish only tanks and never really thought about it being an issue. Should I be using a refractometer? And if so, are there any decent units that are a resonable price?
Thanks

Might want to change your title for the thread to reflect the coral you are describing.

I prefer a refractometer but to each their own, if it stays closed another week I'd start checking parameters for sure...
