I narrowed it down between a fishneedit 70w halide with 20k bulb or a evil1 5w 38 par 20k led bulb. I am having all kinds of coral which one has more bang for my buck and better growth and coral. I have read that the led light covers a 14x14 area .My frag rack has a area of 14x12 so he said that'll do. Which would u guys get the tp rack is like 4 or 5 from water bottom is liek 6 or something like that.

i vote halide, im a believer in leds but i dont think 3 is enough. seems like people with 10 gallon tanks are using closer to 13-16 leds, even evil recommends around 16 leds for 10 gallon builds. when i figured for a 20h build i was closer to 26 leds and the footprint isnt much larger(20x10 vs 24x12). i guess what make me think about the real efficeny of them was the nano customs thread where there retrofit was comparable to a 150 mh, that was 12 or 13 leds i think. i think you would need 2 of the par 38 lamps, especially for light hungry sps corals to match up to a 70w mh. when i think of the par 38 lights i see them as more of an auxillery light source or for lighing a refugium.
as far as colors go, im still waiting for some shots of colors of corals under leds, the few ive seen it seems either people love them for growth or hate them for having the corals fade from lack of uv light. it somewhat diffacult to say though. if the coral was wild there is very little chance it will remain that color under artificial lighting regardless of what you use.
hard to get a straight awjser around here, it very pro led especially with the cost involved i almost wonder if some are just trying to justify the spending.

You're right. I normally recommend a lot more LEDs for a tank that size, but it's for a much different appearance than with the spot. The spot isn't the best solution for everything. It's a vastly different effect than a full DIY setup, but can still produce the PAR required. It is in a smaller area though. I had recommended that he buy two for that tank and that would have worked out nicely for full coverage (it's 5 LEDs a peice BTW

), but with the small size of the frag rack, one can work for the time being.

That will work. Colors won't be ideal, but you can keep what you want under it.
