Sorry if this is a dumb newbie question, but are zoas supposed to close at night? I just put a colony in the tank a week ago and they seem to be doing alright. They close up when the lights go out and open up again when the lights come on. Is this normal? Also, there are a few polyps (10%) that have not opened at all. Is this normal when adding them to a tank? Thanks - hopefully not too dumb a question.

yup everything seems good if they open up when the lights are on your all good and they do close at night. Sometimes they take awhile to open in a new tank so give the other ones a little more time if they dont open in a while take a pic of them and post in another fourm in a week good luck

I have some that stay open and some that close - same with Paly's - seems to me the more mature colonies are more likely to stay open and also a proper dawn/dusk vs my MH on/off

It's normal to have some that stay open and others that close at night. If you have an entire colony or "patch" of a colony that remains closed during the day then you might have a problem.

My zoas that have moonlights pointed towards them tend to stay open all night.

I have some open, some close at night. When the light is on, they're all opened which is matter to me.
