I got a tank raised black ocellaris clown yesterday and was wondering what are the chances that he will host with my BTA? Tell me what you think. Thank you! laugh.gif

No guarantee, but it probably will.

The best i can say would be 50/50, i have seen both Oc. and Percula host btas in captivity, although its not a "natural host" to them

It took my two clowns 3-4 months before they even became slightly interested in my sebae anemone, i would take food and bait the clowns towards it trying to get them to swim through it. It never 100% worked but they did start hosting it after they rubbed it a few times. After i got rid of the sebae that grew too large i got a BTA, and the clowns took to it immediately then. I guess they missed having an anemone, and they jumped on it as soon as it hit the tank!

So they either will host it EVENTUALLY, or never.

It took my mated ORA B&W Oce's almost three months to host! They actually jumped in it immediatley after it split..kinda cool, his and her beds! lol!! smile.gif (the split placed it's foot right next to the original!)

Now they never leave, and have become punk's!! always bittin my hand when I am in the tank.. However it looks super cool when they are chillin in the RBTA!

Good luck my friend!

In my experience, (3yrs with clowns) all of them have hosted BTA's. I have a breeding pair of perc's hosted to one and about 5 ocellaris's in another tank hosting a large BTA. I believe they are one of the better anemone's to have. I have had sebae's, condy's, and curleycue's which they wouldn't host.
FYI clowns will also host large mushrooms, frogspawn, hammer corals, waiving hand coral, torch coral and they love Gonipora, problem is that Gonipora doesn't love them. Watch carpet Anemone's, alot of times they are very powerful and a hosting clown will become food.

My black ocellaris keeps swimming around in the open. He has been as close as an inch to the BTA, but whenever he gets near the royal gramma's territory (which is not far from the BTA) the gramma chases the ocellaris away. I'm not sure if my ocellarisis eating, he gets exited when I put food in and will pick at it some but I have never seen him eat a whole flake. ninja.gif
Soon I will have pics of him.

give the fish time to get used to tank mates, the problem isn't the clown going to the anemone, my guess is it will. Once the Gramma stops pestering it because of territory, it shouldn't bother the clown. Besides once the clown hosts the BTA, the gramma wont come near ( at least it shouldn't).
Just give the clown time, he's only been in a day

I've heard stories of it taking 2 years to never. Mine took 6 months.

Mine took less than two weeks. When I added the smaller orange oc. he immediately wanted to host, though the black was protective of the nem, They are both intermittently hosting the BTA now.

edit, pics at the end of my 29 gal. tank thread

Congrats! I just got a BTA for my Percular Clowns. My smaller one hasnt even looked at it but the bigger one has been eyeing it but not going through it. I did try and bait the anemone with some food to see what would happen...2 pieces got stuck in it...1 floated out and the bigger clown got it, the other piece is still in there...
