Full Version: Chemi Pure Elite causing snowflake like debris?

I just started a new 70g cube and when I put the Chemi Pure Elite in, it produced a lot of snowflake like debris throughout the tank. When I remove the Chemi Pure, the debris is filtered out and disappears.

What is causing this to occur?

I use it religiously and never had that problem. Did you rinse it first?
Whats your calcium level?
reefrider
Yes, rinsed it first ... Alk 9 and Phos 0 just did 15g water change as well so calcium should be okay but will check later today at LFS

why would low calcium level cause that?

check out the chemi media bag and make sure no small tears are in it better yet fill up a big glass bowl with water and put the chemi media bag in the bowl and see if anything is leaking ir comming out of the bag thats what i would try good luck...

Was thinking something in chemipure may cause calcium to calcify if calcium was to high, but not high enough for it to calcify on its own.

Intuitively, I was thinking somehting like that but I did not attribute it too calcium...tank is still cycling and I am wondering if it is too early to use

i had a problem in one of my tanks a while ago and the calcium was sky high really high and i had chemi-pure elite in it and nothing like that happend

I dont think so, I cycled all my tanks with both chemipure-elite and purigen. Never had any problems.
Drop it in a bucket of freshwater with a pump as suggested and see if you get the same results.

The calcium comment was just a shot in the dark as that looks like snow once the water cannot hold anymore

I appreciate the dialogue...something chemically going on though...will follow up later
