So, I have had my tank up and running - RSM 130 - for 11 months now. I have had no major problems other than the usual such as aptaisa. I have a decent amount of SPS and LPS. I noticed yesterday that on a new piece of montipora cap a small portion is loosing flesh, and upon closer look...FN nudibranchs!!! I have a lot of other montipora in this tank and I’m freaking out right now! I have searched this site and others for help and there doesn’t seem to be a consensus on what to do?

What should I do?

I would provide pictures but they come out too blurry, they are definitely nudi’s. I really don’t want to loose this piece, it’s a tryee green cap with blue polyps.

Any and all help is really appreciated. huh.gif

from my experince Montipora eating nudibranchs like eating plating corals and they are pretty hard to get rid of. When i have had them in the past i have just thrown the effected corals away. But you don't have to do that you can get some potassium permanganate and go throught he whole big ordeal. You can use revive and let them sit in there for about 15-20mins but both of theres applications WON'T kill the eggs so its a drawan out process you have to dip and redip and redip and redip every few days. You have to act very fast they are great migraters in tanks. I you don't have these things on hand cut off the affected area and get at least revive to dip them in. Or you can do what i do and get rid of the whole coral and dip every other montipora at least twice with in a week

I have heard that potassium permanganate is the most successful, but where do I get it and how do I use it? Sorry noob to this portion of the hobby.

I could probably cut away that area of the cap, but I do think i see eggs all over the bottom. I picked up a magnifying glass to help remove the eggs once dipped.

What do you think about lugols for a dip?

A good friend had really good luck with buying a Water Pic and using it like a tiny pressure washer to actually wash them and their egg clusters off.....

you should never use a iodine dip on any sps corals so the answer is no. mitch is talking about something like this

http://astore.amazon.com/waterpik.dental-2...tail/B0000A10MZ

you can get potassium permanganate from place where either koi fish are sold or online

Thanks for the info. I just hate getting conflicting suggestions. I have been told to use the lugols on all SPS as a pre dip. Good thing I never have. Do you use lugols for dipping anything?

I think tonight I will remove the frag and just using a toothpick remove the most that I can eggs and nudi's, until I can get my hands on some PP.

I took the piece out to inspect and it was covered on the bottom! So bummed, it is now in the trash. I did break of a small piece and cleaned it of the best I could and fragged it. I will be watching this piece very closely. Thanks all.

I hope your frag does well.
