Hi
I've ordered a vortech MP20 for my 40 breeder (not set up yet). I've noticed most people have their vortechs placed so they are pumpong water down the long side of the tank. Is there a reason for this? I was wondering if it could be placed on the back wall of a tank and have an even flow through out? I've heard they have a "wide" flow, but how Wide is wide?

Has anyone done this?

Any thoughts?

Thanks
poidog
I'd say it'll go 12" wide before the flow gets too weak. You could place it on the back wall and have it hit the front and disperse. I'd prefer one of the side walls instead of the back wall.

for a 40breeder you will probably want an MP40. I have an MP20 on my 29 gallon and although theres lots of flow I can tell that on any tank longer, it will need a stronger pump.

I have the MP20 place on the side (right in the middle) of my 40 breeder. About 4 inches from the top of the water.

Here's a video that I made in June 2009.

Tank looks much different (lots of growth) now but I'm still getting the same flow everywhere in the tank. IMO a MP20 on 100% is more than enough pump for a 40 breeder. No matter what you keep.

I use lagoon mode (purple) at 100%.
