Figured I'd put up my thread well I was thinking of it. Still need to pick up a new 10g tank since all the ones I have are well used and I want a nice looking new one. Plans are to run this peninsula style so there will be 3 viewing sides with a black background. I'm going to be running this as a mostly invert based setup with mostly crabs and shrimp. Most of the corals will be fragged from my current setup but I'm sure I'll add some new purchases also

.
Price list so far
DIY 4x24w t5ho $100
10lbs LR $40
Total: $140
Budget left: $210

Well I picked up the tank today, just need to pick up some black paint the next time I'm at work. Still gotta move some things around to make room for yet another tank lol.

Pictarz!!
u don't need to charge $10 if it's a standard 10g

I think we were all confused by this...

Peninsula style! Nice.
BTW, you can't use used prices. You can buy used stuff to save yourself money, but you have to charge full new price to your budget. All of my stuff is used, too. Actually of my stuff is free, it's from old tanks, but same concept.

Pictarz will be up after that certain item gets posted later.
Yeah I realized we have to count new prices from the budget. The fixture I was gonna use is probably 5-10 years old lol so I have no idea what it cost new. I'm gonna change it up though and run a 4x24w DIY retro over this tank. I just need to pick up some wood to finish a canopy/ surrounding for the tank. I'm gonna draw up a CAD drawing for it for reference.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who does CAD drawings for simple stuff.
You could just find a price for a similar retro if you don't want to build a new one. Look on hellolights.com, they have good prices.

I love doing cad drawings, Its what I'm in school for. Heres the drawing I just did.

I've actually allready got the retro kit. It's being used for my sump lighting on my main tank but the pc fixture will do just fine under there.

Well we have water!! I added around 10lbs of sugar sized sand that I've had laying around since my old 29g tank. I also changed up my lighting to a 4x24w T5HO diy fixture I made a few months ago. Hopefully I can pick up the wood that I need for my canopy/enclosure later in the week.

Allright, I picked out some of the nicer pieces of LR from my 30g tank to put in the new 10g. Let me know what you guys think of the aquascape.

The scape looks like a couple of areas we went snorkeling at in Hawaii... minus the coral and fish that is lol. I like it! I may steel this idea for my next tank (non contest).

Nov 18 2009, 02:30 PM
Thanks, I like the scape. As of right now the tank is holding all my corals because of a problem in my 30b which I have to restart

. Vortech+anemone=one heck of a mess to clean up.

I've heard of that happening. I've also heard how bad it can be. Good luck with your 30.

Yeah it wasn't pretty, I woke up and looked over and couldn't see 3" into the tank. I've already drained the main tank and I need to finish washing out the sand and switch out the sump. It will be a fresh start.

Fresh starts are always good... unless it was at the cost of a nem.

I had a shroom disappear once and I thought my PH ate it but the LFS said if it did then I would definately know. It turned up 3 months later in a crevice

Shh, no one will know, lol. Oh as of right now I'm way over budget, 5 PPEs, 30+ mohawks, 20+Orange Bam Bams, around 50 Tubbs Blues an a whole ton of other zoas. Hopefully I can get the 30b back up soon and get the corals out of the 10g.

Well I busted the front glass to my 30g breeder so I kinda screwed myself over on that tank. I'm waiting for my friend to upgrade to his 150g from his 55g breeder. Once he upgrades I'm trading him some of my old lighting for the 55b tank and stand.
Almost every coral survived the anemone incident including my other anemone which was a split from the first one.

Nov 30 2009, 11:27 AM
That sux dude! How did you bust the glass?
chazde3

I was gonna make it rimless since it is made of thicker glass than normal, bad idea lol.

exactly. But hey, I'm replacing it with a tank almost twice the size with the same footprint so its all good. My led setup should work just fine with it, I just have to invest in some optics for the leds.

Thanks, I'm still grossly over-budget as of right now. I'm still waiting for my buddy to upgrade to his 150g so I can get the 55g breeder tank. It'll be nice to get all of the coral out of the 10g.

http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=214206Sorry, meant to post earlier, I will be dropping out of the contest. I have a lot going on in my life right now and another tank wont help. I am going to focus on my 50b. Hopefully it will mature into a beautiful reef tank. Good luck to all of the contestants in the contest.
