I have been looking at the small LED fixtures coming on the market but there doesn't seem to be any useful infromation on how many lumens, or par these fixtures generate. Has anyone had any experience with any of these fixtures?

I like the small size and easy mounting of the Azoo and Taam lights but an not sure if I would get enough useable light for my Picotope.

I've been looking at that light and it looks interesting but I have a couple problems with it.

1. I don't believe the light is dimmable so adjustment is only possible by raising and lowering the bulb over the tank. The location I am placing my Pico in won't allow me to raise the bulb 16" to 18" above the sand.

2. The bulb and fixture needed to attach it to are very bulky, I would like something small and sleek to go with the look of the Picotope.

I have been looking at some CF balance arm or gooseneck desk lamps and trying to figure out a way to retrofit them with an LED strip. Here is an example I have been lookin at. Desk Lamp

Here is an example of a LED Desk Light that would look cool if the LED's could be replaced with the correct ones.LED Desk Lamp

Evil,

If anyone would know you would. Could an existing fixutre be retroed with proper LED's, Drivers, etc to work as a reef lamp keeping the package small and sleek?

JBJ Picotope light with a Nanocustoms retro would about the absolute simplest way to go. You would have to change the driver to a Buckpuck to make it dimmable though.

All of the LED lamps you listed in teh first post aren't suitable. The Azoo and Taam lights are underpowered, and the Powerbrite, while just about powerful enough, has a horrible spotlight effect.

The PAR38's will work nicely, but the distance you have to mount them is an isse for smaller tanks. We are looking at offering wider optics for applications like this, especially now that the power has been bumped. Oh yeah, I haven't told you guys that yet wink.gif

Could the optics be removed for positioning closer to the tank?

Because of the shape of the lamp, no. Wide angle lenses can create the same effect.
