hey all, im still new to saltwater and i have this mysterious alage looks like it started from 1 of my big rocks and now its appearing on more things and cant tell if its different color coraline or cyano, it isnt really what id call slimy but it looks close enough where i cant tell with my limited experience. lmk what you think

and yea i know theres alot of algae on the top rock, it will be gone soon

if you can wipe it off with your finger or turkey baster then it's cyano.. otherwise it's coralline.. looks like there could be some in the first pic, but not the 2nd or 3rd.

well i just checked one the first one and it has some chunks that i can scrape opp- not slimy just chunky
and on the other its like a thin layer that i can slowly scrape off with a skewer, not fun so look like im going to have to get some slime control

Cyano is one of the most prolific organisms on the planet so I wouldn't blame your lfs. smile.gif

I would avoid chemical warfare if I were you. Unless you are overfeeding your fish the cyano will work itself out eventually - just like that bright green stuff on top of the rocks. Sit back and enjoy the weird stuff happening on your live rock as your tank tries to balance itself. If you are really freaked about it then kill the lights for a couple of days and watch it magically disappear. Your frogspawn won't be affected.

doesn't look like cyano. Good water params and sufficient flow will get rid of nuisance algae

the green algae is recent, water quality is great but it went through another cycle when i put the rocks in and seems like it just wants more time

well if it doesnt come off in a slimy feeling i doubt it cyno. cyno is mostly well slimy and comes off easy. but if yours come off in layers hard, thin, etc looks like coraline to me. coraline can come in, green, purple, pink, red, and in some cases orange.
