Full Version: Frogspawn, not doing too well today

One of my frogspawns that is normally completely open (it has six heads) and around 6 1/2 inches in diameter when all of the heads are fully extended is receeding quite a bit today.

Yesterday I did a 5 gallon water change but the water was cold and I also purchased a new heater and set it up. All of my other LPS are doing fine including another frogspawn frag that is an inch away from the one that is receeding. All of my zoas are also fully open and seem extremely happy.

Another thing that happened yesterday is that I bought some Hikari pellet food for the first time and tried it out. My fish loved it but a couple pellets fell prey to the frogspawns tentacles so could this food have irritated it?

This frogspawn is the type with the long wavy tentacles that are green with some hints of purple and white tips. Some of the tips do not seem as normal as the others. Some are very fat in some areas and have branched off with several tips instead of just one like the majority of the tentacles have.

It might just be irritated from the cold water during the WC. Is it just retracted? Frogspawn will also retract if your water is not up to par. If it is just retracted give it a day or 2 mine does that sometimes.

I thought it was the cold water also but my other frogspawn (although it is a different type of frogspawn) is doing great. It is the same size that it always is.

The big one isn't completely contracted but it seems like the tentacles are lazy looking. It is normally very happy and completely open but I'll def. give it a day or so. If it doesn't show signs of improvement I'll probably take it to the LFS see if they can hold onto it for me in their coral tanks until we figure out the problem.

my hammer coral just receded due to my clown trying to host it. was thinking maybe your clowns are doing the same? just a guess.
