YES!
And anything else that would stick out.
The first time I saw this was the IPSF nano-lagoon, and it looks so good. For $.03 in paint, it makes it look so nice.

Possibly too much in the top middle. Is the one in the middle the same kind? It looks different, maybe that whats throwing it off. Maybe have the two largest ones on the left and right on top of the others?

+1
the mountain look you have now just fills the tank with rocks top to bottom. If you put a ledge in the middle it gives it a more spread out look and you can put more on it.

okay i rearranged the rockwork.... its official.. my aquascaping skillz SUCK!. anyways.. added two blue leg hermit crabs today and i think one of them maybe had babies? i see little things swimming around and they look like microscopic shrimps. hahahah ill upload new pix after dinner =D

ill move around little pieces to make it look less squared.
does anyone here have an experience with baby hermit crabs? what do feed them? will they even have a chance to mature? when do they develop their shells. if i get enough info.. i might just let them grow and not add any fishes.

Nov 20 2009, 05:46 AM
More likely they little critters swimming around are copepods/amphipods from the rock. If your hermit crabs had spawned they'd be microscopic at first.
Nice rockscape.
Good Luck!

i might put that flat piece more middle/bottom. then put some rock on top maybe give it a little height and break the "skyline". just my thought though...

im pretty sure theyre not copepods or amphipods.. i added dry sand and dry rock and 4 gallons of water from my frag tank. they look like tiny tiny tiny tiny shrimps with blueish eys and orange bodies. they appeared like two hours after i released my hermits. they were also free floating and bouncing around. i have amphipods and copepods in the frag tank and they look completely different. anyways, i dont really see much in my tank anymore. probably died because of malnutrition in the new tank.

My office tank takes a little over a gallon a week but at home in the summer I go though about 7-8 gallons a week with fans running. In the winter I cut back to about 4-5 gallons weekly.
The ATO is the best thing ever. You never have to worry about too much evaporating over night.

i totally agree, ATO would be a thing to get. In ime I will be getting one. Unless if I was able to make me one.

I made one from a float, a 12V relay that can pass 120v across the contacts and an old laptop charger. It works great too.
redkneecoral
Dec 18 2009, 12:56 PM
could you show me how you make one
opy01
Dec 18 2009, 04:48 PM
I removed the case for the laptop power supply and removed the wires. I then took the plug that the power cord plugs into and mounted it to the new case and soldered the wires into the correct spots. I also soldered the hot side of the A/C jack wire to the switched contacts of the relay and the other side of the switch to the A/C outlet. I then ran a wire directly from the common side of the A/C input on the right to the A/C output on the left.
For the trigger I used a regular float and hooked one side up to the 12v possitive of the power supply and the other side up to the coil of the relay. Then I hooked the 12v nagative side of the power supply to the other side of the relay coil. When the float goes down too much it send 12v to the coil of the relay and switches the relay on sending the A/C current to the hot side of the A/C outlet and turning on the pump.
Here is a crude drawing and an even cruder pic

It was my pleasure. I was just sitting there and trying to figure out a DIW for an ATO and I had just trashed a dead laptop and decided the PS and a relay would work perfect. Then I added flare with the grey box, AC plug and mini jacks for the float. It's one of my prettier DIW projects lol.

Hey peewee... been following... let me know what you do about the ATO... I've been looking for a straightforward one myself as I'm a little skiddish on the DIYs and don't really trust the simplest systems. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Oh yeah...newest scape looks primo... better than the original! Keep it up! Would love to see more pics.
