How do you get rid of Halimeda? I've been taking as much out as i can but i can't reach all the nooks and crannies. It keeps coming back. Any ideas?

it's typically seen as a desireable algae to have. not much eats it though given that it's calciferous.

I was beginning to think bryopsis was the only algae anyone needed help with. Out of control halimeda doesn't come up too often.
John will probably have your answer, I have only ever been asked how to make it grow more lol
Edit: Halimeda doesn't have runners its a hold fast deally. I would have thought yanking it out would have been effective. Hmm.

yeah since i have a pico im worried about the amount of calcium it takes in from the rest of the tank. Also it just looks ugly. haha sorry if there are those of you that like it.
yeah yanking it gets some of it out but the small parts i miss or care stuck to the rock grow back... They're even growing through my zoanthids.

cut it close to the base next to the rock - if it continues to come back from that spot put a small cap of two fishes purple putty on it - can't grow through that and your zoa's will thank you.
that said - I am encouraging mine but pruning mine to be thinner and taller in my 6g pico - the green clown goby loves it and now sleeps in it just like acropora

i went there but saw nothing on halimeda. I wasn't sure if we should post on the forum or keep it "clean"

if you can get a dental pick, you can use it to scrape the small bits you can't get by pulling it.
also, if you want to harvest it all and mail it to me priority, i'll pay shipping and give you an extra couple bucks for the trouble.

Post something in the Reefcleaner forums John will have an idea of something that will eat it. Although since you have a pico manual removal may be your best bet.

if its isolated on a rock why not just pull it out for a coupe of mins and take a toothbrush too it?

it's not just one one rock and i just feel uneasy pulling out all the rock work but maybe that's what i have to do.

I feel you, but algae has no sympathy for complicated aquascaping. Yank it out and get it over at once or risk months of picking at it a little at a time and never getting a handle on it. Plus you have the added bonus of it not being something a CUC will mess with.
Aren't you freakin' lucky
