tankcrazed
hi everyone,

I recently had a ich outbreak in my display tank and after i lost all my fish exept the pair of clowns that I've had for over 3 years I decided to set up a QT tank. I used my old 24g nano cube that i filled with 2/3 of the displays tank water plus 1/3 new saltwater. Then i dosed copper and put the 2 clowns in there.
At that point they were already covered in white spots and were breathing heavily.
They've been in there for 2 days and the ich seems to be getting better but now I noticed that both of them have chunks of their tail fins missing...
Do you guys know what that is and how to treat it?

Help's appreciated!!
Thanks

It is quite likely that you have high nitrites. That causes fin rot in a hurry. Either way, do a 25% water change as soon as you can.

What are your water parameters, what's doing the filtration in the QT tank, and what's your maintenance schedule on it?

^ that

If they had ich, they were already compromised and fin rot can go all the way to the body. Not an attractive though.

Poor water quality is killin' the fishies at this point. You should be doing daily water changes. Is the QT barebottom?

Pick up some melafix and I would do a 50% WC at least if your params are out of wack <--thats me though. smile.gif

+1 to the daily water changes. When I have a fish in QT I do a very small change once a day. What I do is suck up all of the uneaten food and poop, etc. That is then what the change amount is. Unless you're having issues, this manages water quality quite nicely for me.
