Man, you guys jump to conclusions fast. Try the simple stuff first. A sponge only stops big particles. It you want really clear water, you need to use floss. Try that, come back tomorrow and see how it looks. Don't go panicing about bacterial blooms just yet.
yea im gunna swap some finer filter floss from my 75gal SPS tank right now, good idea idk why I didnt think about that!

Sounds weird, but is there alot of really really fine particles on the bottom of the tank? I'm thinking maybe with nothing on the bottom to stick to, those particles are always getting stirred up... If so, maybe a super thin (~1/2") layer of sand (not oolitic/sugar-sized) might be of some help in getting things to settle down if all else fails. Just a thought though.
yea iv been worried about that this whole build, I have ran sucessful BB tanks before and with the proper husbandry I have never had issues and they turn out quite nice I think. I think the finer filter floss will help some, if not I might have to try sand
