I have a BC14 and I wanted to know what crals can i keep under the stock lighting and what can i keep under the 772 watt upgraded lighting?

crals? laugh.gif

stock is ok for softies and some lps.....maybe a monti up high...thats hit and miss....its hit for me so far...

with the extra light, youll just have better growth out of the above....and possible heat issues....

if you wanna do anything more than that, youll need more power{insert nanotuners LED sales pitch here},

just understand that the quality of light from PC is only so good.....it can get you by, and you can have a nice reef with PC....but light is just half the equation

There isn't any difference in the type of livestock you keep, whether you upgrade to more pc lights or not

Your pretty much restricted to soft corals, zoanthids and LPS

For the money that upgrade will cost, your better off buying a t5 fixture, metal halide or do an LED upgrade

PC lights really are horrible for coral growth. Even if it cost more than the 72watt upgrade, its still cheaper because in the long run you will upgrade to one of the lights I listed above

One thing I've learned in this hobby, for the past 5 years, your better off buying the best you can afford, because trying to pinch a few pennies will only result in money wasted later

I'm interested in a lighting upgrade right now and i'm thinking about adding a led light strip. How many is too much and how many is too little?
fishieCJ
well im really interested in zoas, rics, and paly all of which are soft corals so you think with keep all the corals i want with the stock or do i need the upgrade for any of the above?

oh also a green star polyp i like that to
fishieCJ
So can I keep Zoas under the stock lighting or is the upgrade neccesary?
streetsong
Yes- You can certainly keep zoanthids with biocube stock lighting. In fact, go crazy put them anywhere!
fishieCJ
alright great i LOVE zoas

so what about rics, those good with the stock

What about plate coral as well? I've been thinking about way down the road getting one, but I only have the stock bc hood.
