I have a cutout between my dinning room and kitchen. It has a counter top that is 44x18 on top of a standard wall. I would like to put a 40br centered on the counter top. I plan on having the rocks centered down the middle so I could have both sides for viewing. Its basically a T. Do you think it will work? Here is a very ruff sketch without the walls.

maybe. why not add some sort of decorative pole to each corner, just in case? even a piece of turned oak or something similar. tanks hold their vertical load on the edges, and not having direct support between those edges and the ground would make me nervous.

a 40B weighs between 400 and 500lbs when full, btw. do you trust your counter with 500lbs?

Whats the counter top made of and how much overhang is on each side of the wall? I know you said standard wall, but that can be anything from a little over 4" to 8" or so. I worry about the flex of the counter top. I am sure the wall will be able to support the total weight without any problems though.

Jer I thought about adding the legs but my kitchen table is in the way. I may just frame it out into the dinning room and push the counter top back.

I leak tested a 30 on the counter and it seemed stable but after realizing the 30 was to narrow for two sided viewing I was concerned about extra weight and width.

The wall is 6"w and 33"h. The counter top is press board. I took the counter off and added 3/4x12 piece of pine underneath for more support.

Hummmmmm... I wouldnt trust the counter top. Like I said the wall will support the weight...no problem. I like your idea of framing it out. What I did with a smaller tank that sat on a uneven old rustic table was to get a piece of butcher block slightly larger than the size of the tank. That will NOT flex and the tank looks real nice sitting on it. They can be made to any size you like and out of dozens of woods. Google up an online vendor. I would guess for your tank.....about $100 bucks.
