i am going to be setting up a 24 gallon aquapod salt tank, plan on going to a 75 later on...
now my question is, i found a sweet deal on an aqua logic 1/5hp chiller, would that be too much for my tank?
and are there any cons to using a chiller that is too big?
either way i am picking it up tomorrow, the guy is giving me a nice deal but i have to buy everything...lol...
thanks a bunch!

There is no real downside for using that chiller.

^that. Just get a pump with the appropriate GPH. I use a mj1200 in my AP24

with a chiller that big it will cool down your water really fast. also it will overshoot so might chill past what you intend it to.

thanks a bunch!
if i do use it i will have a heater in the tank, will that help with the cooling down too fast part?
or should i just not mess with it and try to trade it for a smaller chiller or sell it and get a smaller chiller?
for $50 i am not passing this up..lmao
thanks

oh definitely dont let this go.
the heater wouldnt help you if it cools too fast, it only helps you when it cools down past it the preset temperature.
the only reason i said it will cool too fast is when you initially put it in your system, it will bring the temps down faster than a chiller sized for your tank. once the tank is at its ideal temperature, the speed on how fast it cools is not a factor.
chilling beyond the point is what im more concerned on, but it shouldnt be a big problem. just something to look out.
one good thing about a big chiller is its able to keep the water cooler for longer so it doesnt need to be run that often.
what is the temp in your tank right now?

thanks disaster,
the tank is currently empty, i like to get all my equipment before i setup my tanks.
so it would be ok to run on the tank? i will install it and set it before i add any rocks or any thing living so that i dont shock them.
also would a mj 1200 be enough moment around the coil for this chiller?

is the chiller you're talking about this?
http://www.aqualogicinc.com/products/chill...ter-Chiller.htmit said 6-12 gpm, 360gph-720gph is recommended, a mj 1200 should work.
